If I say "She had been working hard and the presentation was almost finished.", does it mean she didn't have any chances to finish the presentation? It was over. If I say "She was working hard and the presentation was almost finished.", does it mean she could be continuously doing it until she finished if she want? 🤔🤔🤔
Of course the meal wasn't ready for guests, otherwise we could say "She had cooked for several hours when the guests arrived." Am I right? 🤔🤔🤔

6. It was raining so the ground was wet.
"Julia had been cooking for hours when the guest arrived" I don't understand, if the pas perfect continuous is abstract and if we don't know when exactly she cooked how could we know that the dinner is not ready when the guest arrived ???? and what about the other one "Julia was cooking when the guest arrived" was the dinner ready when the guest arrived or not ? she was been interrupted so we could believe than the dinner was not ready either ..

Can you teach about the difference between past perfect continuous and present perfect continuous ? please
Hi.. Wouldn't it be great if we say "I was doing the dishes when John arrived" (3:30) instead of "I had been doing the dishes when John arrived"?
You could have better said, "I had been doing the dishes until John arrived". It clearly says that you kept on doing an action for a longer time till the next time/action in the past.
If you say "I was doing the dishes when John arrived", it reflects the fact that at a precise point of time when John arrived, you were doing the dishes..
If you go for past perfect continuous, it shows an action that was kept on going for a much longer period until the following action or a specified time.
Eg: I had been doing the dishes until 10 pm (a specific time).
I had been doing the dishes until John arrived (following action).
Eg: I was doing the dishes when John came (an action was going on at a particular point of time when John arrived).
I had been doing the dishes when John arrived (sounds inappropriate).
This video at 5:14 itself justifies what I've mentioned.
