ลักษณนาม คือ คำนามที่ใช้เพื่อแสดงรูปลักษณะและชนิดของสิ่งต่าง ๆ ให้ชัดเจนยิ่งขึ้น ในภาษาอังกฤษ ถ้าเป็นนามนับได้จะสามารถนับจำนวนได้เลย แต่สำหรับนามนับไม่ได้จะนับจำนวนตามภาชนะที่ใส่ หรือตามจำนวนหน่วยการวัด ชั่ง ตวง ซึ่งได้รวบรวมมาไว้ที่นี่แล้ว

a spoonful of… = ช้อน

honey (น้ำผึ้ง)

ice cream (ไอศกรีม)
sugar (น้ำตาล)

Ex. I want a spoonful of ice cream.
     (ฉันต้องการไอศกรีมสักช้อนนึงน่ะ)

a bar of… = แท่ง ท่อน ก้อน

Ex. We had a bar of gold stolen.
     (เราถูกขโมยทองหนึ่งแท่ง)

a drop of… = หยด

blood (เลือด)
oil (น้ำมัน)

Ex. There is not a drop of water left.
     (ไม่มีน้ำเหลือสักหยด)

a glass of… = แก้ว / a bottle of… = ขวด

milk (นม)

Ex. Get me a glass of milk.
     (ขอนมให้ฉันสักแก้ว)

a cup of… = ถ้วย / a mug of… = เหยือก / a pot of… = หม้อ

Ex. I drank two cups of coffee.

     (น้องชายของฉันกินซีเรียลหนึ่งชามเป็นประจำสำหรับมื้อเช้า)

a pound of / a kilo of… = ปอนด์ / กิโล

Ex. Mother put two slices of bread in the toaster.
     (แม่ใส่ขนมปังสองแผ่นในเครื่องปิ้งขนมปัง)

a roll of… = ม้วน

tape (เทป)
toilet paper (กระดาษชำระ)

Ex. Do you have a roll of toilet paper?
     (คุณมีกระดาษชำระสักม้วนไหม?)

a piece of… = ชิ้น, อัน, ใบ, เรื่อง

advice (ข่าวสาร, ข้อมูล)
furniture (เฟอร์นิเจอร์)
luggage (กระเป๋าเดินทาง)

Ex. There is a limit of two pieces of luggage for each passenger.
     (จำกัดกระเป๋าเดินทางสองใบต่อผู้โดยสารแต่ละคน)

a tube of… = หลอด

toothpaste (ยาสีฟัน)
adhesive (กาว)

Ex. Please buy a tube of toothpaste.
     (ช่วยซื้อยาสีฟันให้หลอดนึงสิ)

ข้อสังเกต: เมื่อต้องการให้เป็นพหูพจน์ จะเติม s/es ที่ภาชนะหรือหน่วยวัด นามนับไม่ได้หลัง of คงเดิม แต่ถ้าเป็นนามนับได้คำนามหลัง of จะเติม s/es ด้วย เช่น
              He ate three plates of rice.
              I’d like two kilos of onions.

 

วันนี้เรามาเรียนรู้วิธีการนับเลขภาษาอังกฤษ เพื่อเป็นพื้นฐานการพูดภาษาอังกฤษในส่วนอื่น ๆ ต่อไป เพราะชีวิตคนเราต้องมีตัวเลขเข้ามาเกี่ยวข้องกันไม่มากก็น้อย เช่นกัน การบอกเวลา การบอกราคาสินค้า การบอกจำนวนต่าง ๆ ของสิ่งของ หรือการบอกวันที่ ลำดับที่ต่าง ๆ วันนี้เรามาเริ่มเรียนการนับเลข ภาษาอังกฤษ และเรียนรู้ชนิดตัวเลขในภาษาอังกฤษกันค่ะ

วิธีการนับเลขแบบต่าง ๆ ในภาษาอังกฤษ

ตัวเลขในภาษาอังกฤษมี 2 ชนิดคือ

• ตัวเลขจำนวนนับ Cardinal Numbers  เช่น 1 (one), 2 (two), 3(three), 4(four)
• ตัวเลขลำดับที่  Ordinal Numbers  เช่น 1st (first), 2nd (second), 3rd (third), 4th (fourth)

วิธีการใช้ตัวเลขแบบจำนวนนับ

• ใช้นับสิ่งของ   เช่น   There are three apples in the basket.
• ใช้บอกอายุ   เช่น   My son is thirteen years old.
• ใช้บอกเบอร์โทรศัพท์  เช่น My mobile number is two-tw0-one-six-nine-six.
• ใช้บอกปีพ.ศ. เช่น  He was born in nineteen eighty-five.

วิธีการใช้ตัวเลขแบบลำดับที่

หลักการง่าย ๆ คือ การเติม -th ไปที่ด้านหลังของตัวเลข แต่ก็มีตัวเลขบางตัวที่ต้องใช้คำเฉพาะ เช่น  the first – ลำดับที่หนึ่ง  the second – ลำดับที่สอง the third – ลำดับที่สาม

ใช้บอกวันที่ เช่น His birthday is on the 14th of April. (the fourteenth of april)

ใช้บอกลำดับขั้น เช่น Miami bull came second in the NBA league last year.

ใช้บอกชั้นของตึก เช่น Her room is on the nineth floor.
