Conjunction คือ คำสันธาน แบ่งออกได้เป็น 3 กลุ่มใหญ่ ๆ คือ Coordinating conjunction, Subordinating conjunction และ Correlative conjunction ซึ่งในวันนี้เราจะมารู้จักหลักการใช้ Subordinating Conjunction กันค่ะ
Subordinating conjunction คืออะไร?
Subordinating conjunction (SC) คือ คำสันธานที่ใช้เชื่อมประโยคหลัก (Main Clause) กับประโยคย่อย (Subordinate Clause) ที่มีความสำคัญไม่เท่ากัน
โครงสร้างการใช้ Subordinating conjunction
แบบที่ 1: S + V + SC + S + V
Ex. I hadn’t known who sang it even though I’d heard the song before.
(ฉันไม่รู้ว่าใครร้องมันแม้ว่าฉันเคยได้ยินเพลงมาก่อนแล้ว)
แบบที่ 2: SC + S + V, S + V
Ex. Even though I’d heard the song before, I hadn’t known who sang it.
(แม้ว่าฉันจะเคยได้ยินเพลงมาก่อนแต่ฉันไม่รู้ว่าใครร้องมัน)
Subordinating conjunction ได้แก่กลุ่มคำต่อไปนี้
กลุ่มคำบอกเวลา (Time)
while (ในขณะที่)
when (เมื่อ)
after (ก่อนหน้า)
before (หลังจาก)
as soon as (ทันทีที่)
once (ครั้งหนึ่ง)
whenever (เมื่อไหร่ก็ตาม)
until (จนกระทั่ง)
Ex. While I was walking in the market, I met Tom.
(ในขณะที่ฉันกำลังเดินอยู่ในตลาด ฉันก็เจอทอม)
Ex. A baby deer can stand as soon as it is born.

even if (ถ้า, แม้ว่า)
unless (ถ้าหากว่าไม่)
Ex. If you come here tomorrow, I will cook for you.
(ถ้าคุณมาที่นี่พรุ่งนี้ ฉันจะทำอาหารให้คุณ)
Ex. I hope to go to college next year assuming that I pass my exams.
(ฉันหวังว่าจะได้ไปวิทยาลัยในปีหน้าถ้าหากฉันผ่านการสอบ)
กลุ่มคำทั่ว ๆ ไป (Manner)
how (อย่างไร)
as though (ราวกับว่า)
as if (ราวกับว่า)
so … that (มากซะจนที่จะ) โครงสร้างการใช้ so + adj./adv. + that
Ex. He taught her how to play the piano.
(เขาสอนวิธีเล่นเปียโนให้กับเธอ)
Ex. She acts as though she were very rich.
(เธอแสดงท่าทางราวกับว่าเธอรวย)
**ข้อสังเกต** ไม่ใช้ she was แต่ใช้ she were เนื่องจากเป็นเรื่องที่ไม่เป็นจริงในปัจจุบัน และสิ่งที่เป็นการคาดการณ์ คาดหวังและไม่เป็นจริงในปัจจุบันจะใช้ past simple แม้ว่าประโยคหน้าจะเป็น present ก็ตาม
Ex. This book is so long that I can’t read it all in two days.
(หนังสือเล่มนี้ยาวมากซะจนที่ฉันไม่สามารถอ่านทั้งหมดได้ในสองวัน)

เพราะสิ่งแรกที่ผู้อ่านจะเห็นคือส่วนบทนำของเรียงความ ดังนั้น เราจำเป็นต้องเลือกสรรคำที่เก๋ ดูดีมีชาติตระกูล และถูกต้องมากที่สุด เพื่อมาใช้พูดเกริ่นนำถึงใจความสำคัญของสิ่งที่เราจะเขียนในเรียงความ ที่เรียกกันว่า “main idea” นั่นเอง ตัวอย่างของคำ วลีที่มักนำมาใช้ เช่น

สามารถแต่งประโยคได้ว่า : The purpose of this essay is to raise people’s awareness about the causes of global warming.
วิธีเกริ่นไม่ได้มีเพียงแค่การพูดถึงตรงๆ เกี่ยวกับสิ่งที่เราจะเขียนเท่านั้น ถ้าอยากทำให้งานดูน่าสนใจมากขึ้น นักเขียนหลายท่านก็ยังใช้การอ้างอิงข้อความของบุคคลอื่นๆ ที่ได้ถูกกล่าวไว้ และเกี่ยวข้องกับเรื่องที่เราจะเขียนมาใช้อีกด้วย เราสามารถอ้างโดยใช้คำเหล่านี้ก็ได้ เช่น

Essay ไม่ล่ม เพราะช่วงเนื้อหา (Body) ก็ยืนหนึ่ง
ถึงแม้จะออกสตาร์ทมาอย่างดีแล้ว ก็อย่าเพิ่งนิ่งนอนใจไป เพราะช่วงเนื้อหา (Body) ก็เป็นส่วนที่สำคัญมากๆ อีกอย่างที่แอดบอกได้เลยว่า ไม่พาขึ้นสวรรค์ ก็ดันเราลงเหวไปเลย ฮ่าๆ เมื่อความคิดที่หลากหลายมาตีกันในหัว คนที่จัดเรียง และถ่ายทอดข้อมูลเหล่านั้นออกมาได้เป็นระเบียบมากที่สุดเท่านั้นแหละ ที่จะได้คะแนนเต็มไป! ไปดูกันว่า เราจะสามารถใช้คำไหน เพื่อช่วยได้บ้าง
หากต้องการจัดความคิดให้เป็นลำดับ ให้ผู้อ่านอ่าน เข้าใจ และคิดตามได้ง่าย สามารถคำเหล่านี้นำหน้าได้ เช่น

หากต้องการพูดถึงประเด็นที่มันมีใจความขัดแย้งกับที่กล่าวไปด้านหน้า เติมคำเหล่านี้ไปก็แสดงให้เห็นถึงใจความที่ขัดแย้งได้ดีมากๆ เลยน้า เช่น

สุดท้าย หากต้องการเน้นที่ตามมาจากเหตุการณ์ที่ได้กล่าวถึง ก็สามารถใช้คำเหล่านี้ช่วยขยายความได้ เช่น

ช่วงสรุป (Conclusion) โดนใจ ใครๆก็อวยยศ
เขียนดี จัดระเบียบข้อมูลดีมาทั้งเรื่องก็ขออย่า! ตกม้าตายตอนจบเป็นนางเอกละครน้ำเน่า เพราะพอถึงขั้นนี้ มันก็ต้องมีคำที่มาช่วยเกริ่นว่า สิ่งที่เราพูดมาในเรียงความทั้งหมด มันสรุปได้ว่าอย่างไร? เหมือนกับการย้ำผู้อ่านไปถึงประเด็นที่เราต้องการจะสื่อนั่นแหละ สิ่งที่เราเขียน หรือประเด็นที่เรายกมาก็จะฟังดูมีน้ำหนัก น่าเชื่อถือขึ้น เรามักใช้คำว่า

นั่นก็เป็นคำที่มักถูกใช้ในแต่ละส่วนของ Essay ที่ควรเลือกใช้ และนำใส่ไปในงานของเราบ้าง เพื่อที่ผู้อ่านจะได้จับประเด็นสำคัญถึงสิ่งที่เรากำลังเขียนได้ และอ่านได้อย่างลื่นไหลยิ่งกว่าใช้ IPhone 13 ฮ่าๆ อย่าลืมเอาไปปรับใช้ในงานเขียนของเพื่อนๆ กันน้าาาาาาา :
