มาเริ่มกันที่คำแรกด้วยคำที่ทุกคนคุ้นเคยกันดีกว่าค่ะ น้องๆ คงรู้กันอยู่แล้วว่า Catch มีความหมายว่าจับ แต่จริงๆ แล้วมันสามารถใช้ได้ในหลายบริบทมากก ที่เจอกันบ่อยๆ จะหมายถึงการ
“จับสิ่งที่กำลังเคลื่อนไหว”

Hold ก็เป็นอีกคำที่เจอได้บ่อยๆ ใช่มั้ยคะ คำนี้จะมีความหมายว่า
“จับหรือถือในมือหรือในอ้อมแขน”
อธิบายให้ละเอียดมากขึ้นจะหมายถึงการจับไว้ ถือไว้ไม่ให้มันหล่นประมาณนั้นค่ะ มีเซนส์ของการที่เราต้องประคองค้างเอาไว้แบบนั้นเลย ถ้ายังไม่เห็นภาพงั้นเราไปดูตัวอย่างกันดีกว่าค่ะ

คำถัดมาอาจจะไม่ใช่คำที่น้องๆ คุ้นเคยสักเท่าไหร่ Seize (อ่านว่า /ซีส/) คำนี้ก็สามารถใช้ได้ในหลายบริบทเหมือนกันค่ะ อย่างแรกเลยจะหมายถึง
“จับหรือฉวยอย่างรวดเร็วและถือเอาไว้”
หรือจะหมายถึงการ
“คว้าโอกาส/ผลประโยชน์”
ก็ได้ แต่ถ้าน้องๆ ได้อ่านข่าวที่ตำรวจหรือเจ้าหน้าที่เป็นคนทำกริยานี้ อันนี้จะหมายถึงการ
“ยึดของผิดกฏหมาย”

Grab
มาถึงคำนี้เชื่อว่าน้องๆ น่าจะรู้จักกันแน่นอน เพราะเป็นชื่อของแอปพลิเคชันชื่อดังแอปฯ นึงเลย Grab แปลว่า
“ฉวย/คว้าตัวคนหรือของลวกๆ อย่างรวดเร็ว”
คำนี้จะมีเซนส์ของความไวอยู่ค่ะ ประมาณว่าเราไม่ได้มอง รีบๆ หยิบของละออกมาเลย

โจรฉกกระเป๋าถือของเธอในตอนที่เธอเดินผ่านสวนสาธารณะ

เข้าคว้าแขนลูกเอาไว้ไม่ให้วิ่งลงไปบนถนน
Arrest
ในกรณีที่พูดถึงตำรวจจับผู้ร้าย เราสามารถใช้คำว่า Arrest ในภาษาอังกฤษได้ค่ะ แปลว่า
“จับกุม”
นั่นเอง ส่วนถ้าจะบอกว่าถูกจับด้วยเรื่องอะไร ข้อหาไหน ให้ใช้คู่กับ for จ้า

Capture
อีกหนึ่งคำที่คนไทยคุ้นเคยกันดีคือคำว่า Capture นั่นเองค่ะ ปกติเรามักจะใช้ในความหมายของการแคปภาพจากหน้าจอคอมพิวเตอร์หรือโทรศัพท์มือถือ แต่จริงๆ แล้วในภาษาอังกฤษ สามารถใช้ในความหมายว่า
“จับตัวโดยใช้กำลัง”
ได้เช่นกัน ไม่จำเป็นต้องเป็นผู้ร้ายนะคะ อาจจะเป็นผู้บริสุทธิ์ที่โดนจับก็ได้
ตัวอย่างประโยค

ทหาร 2 นายถูกฆ่า ส่วนคนที่เหลือโดนจับตัวไป
Nab
Nab แปลว่า
“หยิบอย่างรวดเร็ว”
หรือจะหมายถึง
“จับกุมผู้ร้าย”
ก็ได้เหมือนกัน แต่คำนี้ไม่ใช่คำที่เป็นทางการนะคะ บางคนเลยอาจจะยังไม่เคยเห็นในข่าว แน่นอนว่าเอาไปใช้ในงานเขียนก็ไม่ค่อยเหมาะเท่าไหร่ ที่สำคัญเลยคืออย่าจำสลับกับคำว่า Nap ล่ะ เพราะอันนั้นหมายความว่า งีบหลับ ค่ะ ถ้าใช้ผิดล่ะก็ความหมายไปคนละโยชน์เลย ต้องระวังนะ!

Apprehend
มีคำไม่เป็นทางการไปแล้ว เรามาดูคำที่เป็นทางการกันบ้างดีกว่า Apprehend แปลว่า “
จับกุมผู้ที่ไม่ปฏิบัติตามกฎหมาย”
หรือง่ายๆ ก็คือจับผู้กระทำผิดนั่นเองค่ะ
ตัวอย่างประโยค
The police have finally

the killer.
ในที่สุดเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจก็จับกุมตัวนักฆ่าได้แล้ว
Charge
มาถึงคำสุดท้ายแล้วว คำว่า Charge นี่คนไทยก็ใช้กันทั่วไปเลย ซึ่งเรามักจะใช้ในความหมายว่าชาร์จแบต ในอีกกรณีก็การเข้าชาร์จตัวหรือจับตัวไว้ ทั้ง 2 ความหมายนี้ก็มีใช้ในภาษาอังกฤษ แต่ว่าจริงๆ แล้วยังมีอีกความหมายนึงค่ะ นั่นคือ
“จับกุมตัว”
นั่นเอง ซึ่งเค้ามักจะใช้กับ with เพื่อบอกข้อหาที่โดนจับมา

เธอถูกจับในข้อหาฆาตกรรมสามีตัวเอง

เป็นการแสดงความคิดเห็นอย่างสุภาพและเป็นทางการ ในทางธุรกิจนิยมใช้วลีนี้ในการพูดแสดงความเห็น ซึ่งสามารถใช้ร่วมกับ I think…ในประโยคเดียวกันได้ เช่น In my opinion, I think children watch too much television. (ในความคิดเห็นของฉัน ฉันคิดว่าเด็กๆ ดูโทรทัศน์มากเกินไป)
I believe..… แปลว่า ฉันเชื่อว่า…
เป็นวลีที่บ่งบอกถึงความเชื่อมั่น หรือมั่นใจในบางสิ่ง เช่น I believe that he was honest. (ฉันเชื่อว่าเขาจริงใจ)
I assume… แปลว่า ฉันเชื่อว่านะ….
เป็นลักษณะที่ทึกทักเอาเอง เช่น I assume that you have understood my note. (ฉันเชื่อนะว่าคุณเข้าใจข้อความของฉัน)
I would say… แปลว่า ฉันจะพูดว่า…..
เช่น I would say that man is very friendly. (ฉันจะพูดว่า ผู้ชายคนนั้นเป็นมิตรมากๆ)
In my point of view… แปลว่า ในมุมมองของฉัน….
เช่น In my point of view this initiative is very important. (ในมุมมองของฉัน ความริเริ่มสร้างสรรค์แบบนี้มีความสำคัญมากนะ)
I consider….. แปลว่า ฉันคิดว่า……
เช่น I consider this project will be completed in two years. (ฉันคิดว่าโปรเจ็คนี้จะสำเร็จได้ใน 2 ปี)
If you ask me,… แปลว่า ถ้าถามฉันนะ….
เช่น If you ask me, we cannot find a better bargain than this. (ถ้าถามฉันนะ เราไม่สามารถหาราคาถูกไปกว่านี้ได้แล้วล่ะ)
To me… แปลว่า สำหรับฉัน….
เช่น To me, you are perfect. (สำหรับฉัน คุณคือคนสมบูรณ์แบบ)
As far as I can tell… แปลว่า เท่าที่ฉันบอกได้….
เช่น As far as I can tell, she is happy at her new job. (เท่าที่ฉันบอกได้ เธอมีความสุขกับงานใหม่ของเธอนะ)

เช่น From my point of view, there is no way they can win. (จากมุมมองของฉัน ไม่มีทางที่พวกเขาจะชนะได้หรอก)
To my mind… แปลว่า ฉันคิดว่า….
เป็นการพูดเพื่อเน้นความคิดเห็นของเรา เช่น To my mind the quality of England National football is just not good enough. (ฉันคิดว่านะ คุณภาพฟุตบอลอังกฤษยังดีไม่พอน่ะ)
It is my view… แปลว่า มันเป็นมุมมองของฉัน…..
