In this video, we will study definition of Debit Note along with its characteristics and some practical example.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐢𝐭 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞?
The purchaser sends the debit note to the seller of the goods. The reason for sending this note is to inform the seller that the sales account will be debited.
𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐢𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞
To Demonstrate this, we will take an example.
Let’s say Ibm Company bought D\u0026D Traders products worth $60,000. And Ibm Company finds that 3% of all purchased items are faulty. Ibm Company provided a debit note stating the same.
First, we will pass the entry to the journal and then examine why we pass these entries.
S\u0026S Traders A/C…….Dr 1800 –
To Purchase A/C – 1800
Since Ibm Company bought goods from D\u0026D Traders worth $60,000.
The entry for this journal would be
Purchase A/C…….Dr 60,000 –
To S\u0026S Traders A/C – 60,000
The purchase account is debited here because the costs have increased, and the D\u0026D Traders account is credited because the liability has increased as the seller of goods is D\u0026D Traders.
If 2% of defective products were found, the entry would be doubled
D\u0026D Traders A/C……Dr 1800 –
To Purchase A/C – 1800
Purchase A/C…….Dr 1800 –
To Purchase Return A/C – 1800
