หนึ่งในเครื่องหมายที่ช่วยลดคำและจัดระเบียบข้อความได้ดีมากๆ ทั้งในเรียงความ สไลด์พรีเซนต์งาน การเขียนเรซูเม่ ก็คือ “เครื่องหมายนำสายตา” หรือ Bullet points นั่นเองค่ะ ถ้าใครเคยสงสัยว่าต้องใช้แบบไหนถึงจะถูกหลักและดึงดูดสายตา วันนี้

จะมาบอกเคล็ดลับการใช้เครื่องหมายนี้ให้กับน้องๆ เอง จะมีอะไรบ้างตามมาดูกันดีกว่าค่ะ ><

 

1. ประโยคก่อนขึ้น Bullet Points ต้องลงท้ายด้วย colon (:)

        มาเริ่มกันที่ข้อแรกค่ะ ข้อนี้ไม่ยากเลย แค่จำไว้ว่าประโยคเกริ่นก่อนใช้ตัว Bullet Points จะต้องลงท้ายด้วย colon (:) เสมอ ที่สำคัญคือให้เลี่ยงการใช้ semi colon (;) ลงท้ายประโยค Bullet Points ค่ะเพราะว่ามันดูโบราณมากๆ และไม่ค่อยเป็นที่นิยมแล้วค่ะ
 

ตัวอย่างการใช้

 

House Cleaning Tips:

• Remove items from shelves before dusting.
• Vacuum window sills and corners with a vacuum hose.
• Clean windows with a newspaper and cleaning solution.
• Dust all ceiling fans and lights.
   

2. ข้อความในทุก Bullet ควรเป็นรูปแบบเดียวกัน

        หลักๆ ข้อความที่ตามหลังเครื่องหมาย Bullet Points จะมีทั้ง

แบบเป็นประโยค

กับ 

แบบไม่เป็นประโยค

ซึ่งเราต้องใช้ให้เหมือนกันทั้งเซตค่ะ เดี๋ยวพี่จะยกตัวอย่างให้น้องๆ เห็นภาพชัดเจน
 

1. แบบเป็นประโยค

ขึ้นต้นด้วยตัวอักษรพิมพ์ใหญ่ และลงท้ายด้วยเครื่องหมาย full stop (.)
 

ตัวอย่าง

 

The agenda for tonight is as follows:

• We will conduct an annual review of capital gains issues.
• Attorney Sanso will talk about outstanding inheritance tax issues.

   

2. แบบไม่เป็นประโยค

ไม่ต้องขึ้นต้นด้วยตัวอักษรพิมพ์ใหญ่ และไม่ต้องลงท้ายด้วยเครื่องหมาย full stop (.)
 

ตัวอย่าง

 

Mr Mole won the following events:

• egg-and-spoon race
• toss the pancake
• apple bobbing
   

3. ขึ้นต้นข้อความด้วย part of speech แบบเดียวกัน

        ต่อมาเราจะใช้หลักโครงสร้างคู่ขนาน (parallellism) เข้ามาช่วยค่ะ หากน้องๆ เริ่มต้นข้อความหลัง Bullet Points ด้วยประเภทคำ (Part of speech) แบบเดียวกันและความยาวเท่ากันๆ จะช่วยให้งานเขียนของเราดูดีขึ้น โดยส่วนใหญ่จะนิยมเริ่มด้วย Verb แต่อย่าลืมว่าถ้าจะใช้ Verb ก็ควรดูให้มั่นใจว่ามันอยู่ใน tense เดียวกันนะ!
 

ตัวอย่างการใช้ที่ถูกต้อง

 

Duties and responsibilities included:

• teaching homework and study skills to disabled students
• reaching attainment targets and improving learning performance
• developing an after-school sports program
   

        จากตัวอย่างจะเห็นได้ว่าทุกอันจะขึ้นต้นด้วย Present Participle ใช้ตัวพิมพ์เล็กขึ้นต้น รวมไปถึงไม่ใส่ Full stop เหมือนกันทุกข้อค่ะ 
 

ตัวอย่างการใช้ที่ผิด

 

This year in mathematics, we learned:

• to add
• double-digit subtraction
• multiplying single numbers
• We learned how to do long division in school.
   

        จากตัวอย่างนี้จะเห็นได้ว่าแต่ละอันขึ้นต้นด้วย part of speech ที่ไม่เหมือนกันเลยค่ะ มีทั้งขึ้นต้นด้วยคำบุพบท (prepposition) คำนาม (noun) และ Present participle แถมที่หนักสุดคือ Bullet อันสุดท้ายยังแหวกแนวมาขึ้นต้นด้วยตัวใหญ่และจบด้วย Full stop อีกต่างหาก แบบนี้ผิดหลักเต็มๆ เลยค่ะ

4. ข้อความตามหลังไม่ควรยาวยืด

        การใช้ข้อความสั้นๆ จะช่วยดึงดูดสายตา และทำให้คนอ่านเข้าใจประเด็นสำคัญง่ายขึ้น หากจำเป็นต้องใช้ข้อความยาว ก็ไม่ควรเกิน 3 บรรทัด หากมากกว่านี้จะดูเป็น Paragraph ลดความน่าอ่านลงไปเยอะเลยค่ะ
 

ตัวอย่างการใช้ไม่เหมาะสม

 

Some of the topics we touched upon:

• Preparation: In some organisations, the person preparing the presentation and the person actually delivering it are not the same. This may not be easy to change but shouldn’t be used as an excuse for not reviewing the slides and practising before presenting it.
• Arrive early. There’s so much that could go wrong, from being late to having forgotten important pieces of equipment to incompatibilities between your laptop and the projector at the venue. If you arrive early, you have a chance to address these issues. You should be up and running with your setup at the scheduled time – don’t make your audience watch you boot your laptop.
• Finish in time. Especially at conferences, remember that people in your audience will want to move to another room for the next session. So don’t go over your allotted time. This will also give the next presenter after you enough time to prepare for their session
   

        จากตัวอย่างจะเห็นได้ว่าข้อความดูติดกันเป็นพืด แม้แต่เครื่องหมาย Bullet Points ก็ไม่ได้ช่วยให้อ่านง่ายขึ้น
 

5. อย่าใช้พร่ำเพรื่อจนดูไม่น่าสนใจ

        อย่างที่พี่ภัทรบอกในข้อเมื่อกี้เลยค่ะว่าการใช้ตัว Bullet Points จะช่วยดึงดูดสายตาของคนอ่านได้ดีมากๆ แต่!! ถ้าเราใช้มันเยอะและถี่เกินไป จะดูรกและไม่ดึงดูดสายตา เผลอๆ คนอ่านจะข้ามประเด็นสำคัญที่เราต้องการเน้นด้วย
