If clause คืออะไร
If clause (มีชื่อเรียกอื่นว่า conditional sentences หรือ conditional clauses) คือรูปแบบประโยคที่ใช้บอกว่า ถ้ามีสิ่งหนึ่งเกิดขึ้น (เงื่อนไข) อีกสิ่งก็จะเกิดขึ้นตาม (ผลลัพธ์)
การใช้ if clause เราจะต้องใช้คู่กับ main clause (ประโยคหลัก) โดยที่ if clause จะเป็นตัวบอกเงื่อนไข ซึ่งจะขึ้นต้นด้วย if ส่วน main clause จะเป็นตัวบอกผลลัพธ์ อย่างเช่น
If it rains, I will stay home.
ถ้าฝนตก ฉันจะอยู่บ้าน
จากตัวอย่างประโยคนี้
If clause ก็คือ If it rains (เงื่อนไข)
Main clause ก็คือ I will stay home. (ผลลัพธ์)
หลักการใช้ if clause
เรามาดูหลักการใช้ if clause ทั้งการใช้คอมม่า และการใช้ if clause ทั้ง 4 แบบกันเลย (บางที่อาจพูดถึงแค่ 3 แบบ โดยจะตัดแบบที่ 0 หรือที่เรียกว่า type 0 ออก)
ตำแหน่งกับการใช้คอมม่า
If clause และ main clause สามารถเขียนสลับที่กันได้ ซึ่งถ้าเราขึ้นต้นประโยคด้วย if clause เราจะต้องใช้คอมม่าคั่นระหว่าง if clause และ main clause
If you don’t hurry, you will be late for school.
ถ้าคุณไม่รีบ คุณจะไปโรงเรียนสาย
แต่ถ้าเราขึ้นต้นประโยคด้วย main clause เราจะไม่ต้องใช้คอมม่า
You will be late for school if you don’t hurry.
คุณจะไปโรงเรียนสายถ้าคุณไม่รีบ
การใช้ if clause แบบที่ 0
If clause แบบที่ 0 (เรียกอีกอย่างว่า the zero conditional หรือ type 0) เราจะใช้กับ
- สิ่งที่เป็นจริงเสมอ (ถ้าน้ำแข็งละลาย มันจะกลายเป็นน้ำ – ความจริงตามธรรมชาติ)
- สิ่งที่เราทำเป็นปกติ (ถ้าฉันไปชายหาด ฉันจะใช้ครีมกันแดด – ฉันใช้ครีมกันแดดเสมอ เมื่อฉันไปชายหาด)

การใช้ if clause แบบที่ 1
If clause แบบที่ 1 (the first conditional) เราจะใช้กับเหตุการณ์สมมติที่น่าจะเกิดขึ้นในอนาคต
ตัวอย่างเช่น ถ้าฝนตก ฉันจะอยู่บ้าน – มีความเป็นไปได้สูงว่าอนาคตฝนจะตก ซึ่งถ้าฝนตก ฉันก็จะอยู่บ้าน

การใช้ if clause แบบที่ 3
If clause แบบที่ 3 (the third conditional) เราจะใช้กับเหตุการณ์สมมติในอดีต ซึ่งไม่มีทางเป็นจริงได้ เพราะอดีตเป็นสิ่งที่ผ่านมาแล้ว
ตัวอย่างเช่น ถ้าตอนนั้นฉันตั้งใจเรียน ฉันก็คงสอบผ่าน – ถ้าในอดีตฉันตั้งใจเรียน ตอนนั้นฉันก็คงจะสอบผ่าน ซึ่งในความเป็นจริงนั้นฉันสอบไม่ผ่าน เพราะตอนนั้นฉันไม่ได้ตั้งใจเรียน

การใช้ if clause แบบ mixed type
นอกจากการใช้ if clause ทั้ง 4 แบบแล้ว เรายังสามารถใช้ if clause แบบผสมกันระหว่างแบบที่ 2 และ 3 ได้อีกด้วย ซึ่งก็คือการใช้กับเหตุการณ์สมมติในอดีตที่ไม่เป็นจริง ที่มีผลมายังปัจจุบัน (ต่างจากแบบที่ 3 ที่มีผลเฉพาะกับในอดีต)
ตัวอย่างเช่น ถ้าฉันได้ออกกำลังกายอย่างสม่ำเสมอ ฉันก็คงจะมีหุ่นดี – การออกกำลังกายอย่างสม่ำเสมอในตอนนั้น จะทำให้ฉันมีหุ่นดีในตอนนี้ แต่ในความเป็นจริงนั้นฉันไม่ได้ออก

สรุปการใช้ if clause
- If clause คือประโยคส่วนที่เป็นเงื่อนไข ซึ่งจะขึ้นต้นด้วย if (If it rains, …) ส่วน main clause คือประโยคส่วนที่เป็นผลลัพธ์ (…, I will stay home.)
- การขึ้นต้นด้วย if clause เราจะต้องใช้คอมม่า (If it rains, I will stay home.) ส่วนการขึ้นต้นด้วย main clause เราจะไม่ต้องใช้คอมม่า (I will stay home if it rains.)

- นอกจาก if clause ทั้ง 4 แบบแล้ว เรายังสามารถใช้แบบผสม (mixed type) ซึ่งจะใช้กับเหตุการณ์สมมติในอดีตที่ไม่เป็นจริง ที่มีผลมายังปัจจุบัน (If I had exercised regularly, I would have a great body.)

2021 is the year of new battery developments, and electric vehicle manufacturers couldn’t be happier. Battery companies are on a roll churning out new creations by the minute. The latest in the field of firsts is Lyten, an advanced materials company that is creating news with its LytCell EV lithiumsulfur (LiS) battery platform. Now for those who don’t understand what this means, the gold standard in EV batteries has always been lithiumion, but now new chemical compositions are being tested. The latest is the LiS battery which the company claims is three times more potent than a regular new Liion battery.
The new kid on the battery block will be a game changer
Even as General Motors excitement reveals its new TriMotor battery with its new Ultium technology hasn’t died down, now advanced materials company Lyten has unveiled its breakthrough battery. The LytCell EV is a lithiumsulfur battery designed to deliver three times the gravimetric energy density of a traditional lithiumion or Liion battery. Now get this, Lyten has been working in secret stealth mode with none other than the US government to create the LytCell EV, which will be marketready by 2026. Although originally conceived for only defense purposes, the company is not opposed to commercial production, and that’s because the LytCell is all set to be a gamechanger in electrical transport.
It outclasses all other liion batteries, including Tesla
To put the incredible power of the LytCell into perspective, consider Tesla’s longawaited 4680 Liion battery. Considered one of the most promising battery technologies, it will generate almost 360 Wh/kg energy density. Furthermore, in a few years, Tesla hopes to reach 460 Wh/kg, which is the minimum amount needed to make commercial air passenger service viable. Surprised? Well, get this. The LytCell is all set to give EV manufacturers an energy density of a whopping 900 Wh/kg. This will outclass all Liion batteries and solidstate batteries too. Not just that, it will give an electric vehicle phenomenal power and a more extended range.
