คำว่า whether เป็นคำเชื่อม ความหมายตามท้องเรื่องแปลว่า “หรือไม่” แต่ใช้ยังไงก็ยังใช้ไม่ค่อยจะถูกซักที เป็นคำที่ไม่ค่อยจะคุ้นซักเท่าไหร่ วิธีการเอาไปใช้นี่ก็ไม่ธรรมดานะ ถึงกับต้องแยกเป็นข้อๆเลยทีเดียว มาดูกันค่ะ
1. ใช้เพื่อเลือกว่าจะทำ A หรือ B เช่น
- I’m wondering whether he explains everything to me or just keeps silence.
ฉันกำลังสงสัยว่าเขาจะอธิบายทุกอย่างให้ฉันฟังหรือจะปิดปากเงียบ - I’m deciding whether I go on or give up.
ฉันกำลังตัดสินใจว่าฉันจะทำต่อหรือจะเลิก
** ในกรณีที่คนที่เลือกจะทำเป็นคนๆเดียวกับคนที่คิดหรือตัดสินใจหรือสงสัย พูดง่ายๆคือคนเดียวกับประธานหลัก เราสามารถละประธานหลัง whether ได้ค่ะ แต่ใส่ “to” เข้าไปแทน เช่น
- I’m deciding whether I go on or give up.
= I’m deciding whether to go on or give up. - Laila’s thinking whether she works in a company or runs her own business.
= Laila’s thinking whether to work in a company or run her own business.
2. ใช้เพื่อเลือกว่าจะทำ A หรือไม่ทำ A เช่น
- He asked me whether we have to move to London.
เขาถามฉันว่าพวกเราจำเป็นต้องย้ายไปลอนดอนหรือเปล่า - I don’t know whether I should accept his invitation.
ฉันไม่รู้ว่าฉันควรจะรับคำเชิญของเขาหรือไม่
** ในกรณีนี้เราสามารถละคนที่ต้องเลือกได้เช่นเดียวกับข้อแรก คือใส่ to เข้าไปหลัง whether
3. ใช้ในความหมายว่า “ไม่ว่า” โดย ไม่ว่า A หรือ B ยังไงๆก็จะทำ C หรือไม่มีผลต่อ C เช่น
- Whether I work or study, I always do my best.
ไม่ว่าฉันจะทำงานหรือจะเรียน ฉันก็มักจะทำให้ดีที่สุดเสมอ
4. ใช้ในความหมายว่า “ไม่ว่า” เช่นกันแต่เป็น “ไม่ว่าจะทำ A หรือไม่ทำ A ก็ไม่มีผลอะไรทั้งสิ้น เช่น
- Whether my dad allows or not, I will go anyway.
ไม่ว่าพ่อจะอนุญาตหรือไม่ ฉันก็จะไปอยู่ดี - Whether she loves me or not, I will marry her.
ไม่ว่าหล่อนจะรักผมหรือไม่ ผมก็จะแต่งงานกับเธอ
** ในข้อที่ 4 นี้เป็นการบอกว่า ไม่ว่าจะ A หรือไม่ A ฉันก็จะทำหรือไม่ทำ B อยู่ดี เราต้องใส่ or not เข้าไปเพื่อให้ประโยคได้ใจความสมบูรณ์ ส่วนในข้อที่ 2 เลือกว่าจะทำ A หรือไม่ทำ A เหมือนกัน แต่เราไม่จำเป็นต้องใส่ or not ก็ได้ ถ้าใส่ก็เพื่อเป็นการเน้นสิ่งที่จะทำให้ชัดเจนยิ่งขึ้นเท่านั้น
** ในการแยกว่า whether ที่เราอ่านเจอเป็นแบบไหน สิ่งที่ต้องใส่ใจให้มากคือบริบทหรือ context ที่อยู่รอบๆค่ะ เพราะมันจะบอกเราได้ว่า whether ในประโยคนี้ต้องการสื่ออะไร

หลักการใช้ comma (,)
ทักษะที่สำคัญอีกอย่างหนึ่งในการเรียนภาษาอังกฤษก็คือ การเขียน และสิ่งที่สำคัญไม่น้อยไปกว่าการเขียนโครงสร้างประโยคและการใช้คำศัพท์ให้ถูกต้องก็คือ การใช้เครื่องหมายวรรคตอน เครื่องหมายวรรคตอนในภาษาอังกฤษที่สำคัญก็คือ comma (,) เจอบ่อยมากๆ!! เพราะฉะนั้นถ้าจะเขียนภาษาอังกฤษ รับรองว่าหลีกเลี่ยง comma ไม่พ้นแน่นอนค่ะ มาดูหลักการใช้ comma กันซะหน่อยดีกว่าว่าใช้ในกรณีใดได้บ้าง
1. ใช้คั่นระหว่างคำนามในประโยค ซึ่งมีมากกว่า 2 คำขึ้นไปเช่น
- I want to buy bread, tomatoes, onions, and vinegar.
2. ใช้คั่นระหว่างประโยค Independent clause สองประโยคที่มีคำเชื่อม (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so) คั่นตรงกลาง เช่น
- I know that she was hungry, but she didn’t eat anything.
- I went to the bank, and I went to see the dentist.
แต่ในประโยคที่มีใจความสั้นๆ อาจจะไม่ต้องใส่ comma คั่นก็ได้ เช่น
- I ran fast and I fell down.
3. ใช้คั่นระหว่างประโยค dependent clause และ independent clause เข้าด้วยกัน เช่น
* dependent clause คือ ประโยคที่ไม่สามารถอยู่ได้อย่างอิสระ มักมีคำเชื่อม when, while, if, unless, although, after, before, etc.
* independent clause คือประโยคที่สามารถอยู่ได้อย่างอิสระ
- When I was five, I used to go abroad with my family.
- If the bus doesn’t come, I’ll take a taxi.
4. ใช้คั่นระหว่างส่วนขยาย (apposition) กับคำนาม เช่น
- Lucy, our new boss, is very strict.
- Daniel, usually the top student in the class, won the first prize.
5. ใช้คั่นระหว่างใจความหลักกับส่วนที่เป็นคำกล่าว (quote) เช่น
- Joshua said, “I shouldn’t have eaten a lot.”
6. ใช้คั่นระหว่างคำเชื่อม transition word หรือ conjunctive adverb กับประโยค เช่น
- Tom is a popular student. Moreover, he is a captain of football team.
7. การใช้ comma ในลักษณะอื่นๆ เช่น
- ใช้กับการเขียนวันที่ February 4, 1987
- ใช้ในการคั่นตัวเลขหลักพันเป็นต้นไป 32,000 564,987
- ใช้ในคำพูดเปิดจดหมายอย่างไม่เป็นทางการ Dear Susie,
- ใช้ในการลงท้ายจดหมาย Best regards, Sincerely Yours,

Like I said, it’s gonna be quick and straightforward, I’ll use a formula to add a comma after each word in MS Excel. I’ll be using the Substitute Function in this tutorial. Those who don’t know how to use the substitute function, please check this tutorial below.

It’s gonna be a tremendous example of substitute function.
Here is how you do it.
Suppose you have written a whole sentence in cell A1 and you need to add a comma after each word of that sentence.
Now write the Formula In cell B2 =SUBSTITUTE(A1,\” \”,\”, \”)
Press enter and the data is converted. A comma has been added after every word in your sentence. Its that simple.

มันทำได้จริงๆ ครับ แต่ข้อจำกัดคือมันไม่สามารถคำนวณสูตรยากๆ ได้เหมือนใน Excel แต่จะใช้เป็นสูตรง่ายๆ ไม่ซับซ้อนอย่าง AVERAGE, COUNT, MAX, MIN, PRODUCT, SUM เหมือนจะมีเพียงแค่นี้ และต้องใช้ร่วมกับ อาร์กิวเมนต์ที่ใช้ระบุตำแหน่ง (LEFT, RIGHT, ABOVE, BELOW) หากไม่ระบุจะไม่สามารถคำนวณให้คุณได้
อ้อการนันแถว จะนับเหมือน Excel ทุกประการ ดังนี้หากตารางมากๆ อาจสับสนและกดลากสูตรไม่ได้เหมือน Excel หากจะใช้งานแบบหนักแนะนำ Excel ดีกว่าครับ
