To give the most straightforward possible answer:

Direct Marketing is when you’re asking a potential customer to buy from you.

Indirect Marketing is more about building awareness and a loyal audience that will buy from you over time. In other words, leads come your way by themselves instead of you asking them to buy from you.

But it goes a bit deeper than that, and there are plenty of variations on the two, so now’s time to take a deeper dive.

Reported Speech คืออะไร?

Reported Speech คือ วิธีการที่เราจะนำเอาคำพูดของใครคนหนึ่งไปเล่าต่อให้คนอื่นฟัง ซึ่งมีด้วยกันจริงๆ 2 รูปแบบ นั่นก็คือ Direct Speech และ Indirect Speech ค่ะ

นอกจากนี้ ในตัวของ Reported Speech เอง จะประกอบไปด้วย 2 ส่วนหลักๆ ได้แก่ The Reporting Clause และ The Reported Clause. The Reporting Clause จะประกอบด้วยกริยานำ(reporting verbs) ยกตัวอย่างเช่น say, tell, ask, reply, shout ซึ่งมักอยู่ในรูปของ Past Simple และในส่วนของ The Reported Clause จะเป็นสิ่งที่ผู้พูดได้เริ่มกล่าวไว้ ลองดูตัวอย่างตามตารางด้านล่างนี้นะคะ

ทีนี้เราลองมาดูว่ารูปแบบทั้ง 2 รูปแบบของ reported speech มีอะไรกันบ้างค่ะ

  1. Direct speech คือ การเอาคำพูดคนอื่นมาพูดแบบตรงๆ โดยไม่มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงโครงสร้างของประโยค

    ประโยคลักษณะนี้จะสังเกตุได้ง่ายเพราะมีตัวช่วย คือ เครื่องหมาย Quotation mark

    “……”

    ตัวอย่างเช่น

  • Jamie said, “I will wash all the dishes.”

  • Kim said, “I like Mathematics.”

หรือสลับตำแหน่งกันก็ได้ “ I will wash all the dishes,” Jamie said.

** ข้อควรจำ** หลังประโยคหลักจะถูกคั่นด้วย comma เสมอ และประโยคในเครื่องหมาย quotation mark จะขึ้นต้นด้วยตัวพิมพ์ใหญ่ แต่ในประโยคตัวอย่างที่สองถ้าเอาประโยคที่เป็นคำพูดไว้ด้านหน้าและใส่ชื่อคน พูดไว้ด้านหลัง เวลาที่จบประโยคในเครื่องหมายคำพูดให้ใส่ comma แล้วค่อยปิดท้ายด้วย quotation mark แล้วจึงใส่ชื่อคนพูดต่อท้ายค่ะ

 

  1. Indirect speech – คือ การนำคำพูดไปเล่าต่อโดยอีกบุคคลหนึ่ง

    หรืออาจเรียกว่า “คำพูดที่ถูกนำไปรายงาน” เครื่องหมายคำพูด (Quotation Mark) จึงไม่ต้องใส่อีกต่อไป

    ซึ่งการพูดแบบนี้โครงสร้างประโยคเดิมจะถูกเปลี่ยนแปลงนะคะ

ทั้งนี้การเปลี่ยนประโยคคำพูดเป็น Indirect Speech จะมีหลักด้วยกัน 4 ประการ ดังนี้
1. เปลี่ยนแปลง Tense
2. เปลี่ยนแปลง Personal Pronoun
3. เปลี่ยนแปลง Nearness เป็น Remoteness
4. เปลี่ยนแปลง Reporting Verb (กริยาในประโยคนำ)

Indirect speech สามารถแบ่งออกเป็น 3 ประเภท ตามนี้เลยค่ะ

2.1 Indirect speech – statements คือการรายงานในรูปแบบประโยคบอกเล่าหรือปฏิเสธ
2.2 Indirect speech – commands, requests and suggestions คือ การรายงานประโยคที่เป็นประโยคขอร้อง ประโยคคำสั่ง หรือ ขออนุญาต
2.3 Indirect speech – questions คือการรายงานในลักษณะที่เป็นประโยคคำถาม

ลองมาดูวิธีการเปลี่ยนรูปแบบในแต่ละประเภทกันนะคะ

หลักการเปลี่ยนประโยคบอกเล่าหรือปฎิเสธ – Statement

กฏการเปลี่ยน Direct Statement เป็น Indirect Statement
1. ตัดเครื่องหมาย comma (,) ออก

2.เอาเครื่องหมายคำพูด(Question mark) ออก
3. จะเติม that หลัง Reporting Verbs หรือไม่ก็ได้
4. เปลี่ยนสรรพนามให้เหมาะสม
5.เปลี่ยนคำระบุเวลาต่อไปนี้ จาก ใกล้ –>ไกล

คำที่ต้องเปลี่ยนจาก ใกล้ ให้เป็น ไกล ใน Indirect Speech

6.ถ้า Verb ใน Direct Speech เป็น Present ไม่ต้องเปลี่ยนแปลง Tense เมื่อทำเป็น Indirect Speech แต่ถ้า Verb ใน Direct Speech เป็น Present ต้องเปลี่ยนแปลง Tense ใน Indirect Speech เป็นรูปอดีต เช่น

 

Present simple tense —> past simple tense

เช่น

Direct speech : Kim said, “We work for the city council.”
Indirect speech : Kim said (that) they worked for the city council.

Present continuous tense —> past continuous tense

เช่น

Direct speech : Martin said, “I’m doing the washing.”
Indirect speech : Martin said (that) he was doing the washing.

Past simple tense —> past perfect tense

เช่น

Direct speech : She said, “I decided to leave earlier today.”
Indirect speech : She said (that) she had decided to leave earlier that day.

Past continuous tense —> past perfect continuous tense

เช่น
Direct speech : Jimmy said, “I was driving a lorry”
Indirect speech : Jimmy said (that) he had been driving a lorry.

Present perfect tense —> past perfect tense

เช่น
Direct speech : She said, “My mom haven’t arrived yet.”
Indirect speech : She said (that) her mom hadn’t arrived yet.

Future simple tense (will) —> future (past form) tense (would)

เช่น
Direct speech : She said, “I will submit my homework tomorrow.”
Indirect speech : She said (that) she would submit her homework the following day.

Can —> could

เช่น
Direct speech : Bom said, “I can’t speak Thai.”
Indirect speech : Bom said (that) he couldn’t speak Thai.

May —> might

เช่น
Direct speech : The HR manager said, “The company may cancel the trip.”
Indirect speech : The HR manager said (that) the company might cancel the trip.

 

** ข้อควรระวัง ** ถ้าข้อความใน Direct Speech เดิมเป็นเรื่องจริง (Facts) โดยทั่วไป ซึ่งไม่ขึ้นอยู่กับเวลาในขณะที่กล่าวข้อความนั้น หรือข้อความใน Direct Speech เป็นเรื่องของความเป็นปกติวิสัย (Habitual Actions) ทั้ง 2 กรณีนี้ ต้องใช้กับ Present Tense เสมอ

 

ตารางการเปลี่ยน Tense ใน Indirect Speech

หลักในการเปลี่ยนประโยคคำสั่ง อนุญาต เสนอแนะ และขอร้อง – Commands or Requests

หลักในการเปลี่ยนก็จะมีการเปลี่ยน Tense หรือ ข้อความบอกเวลาและข้อความที่บ่งบอกความใกล้-ไกล เหมือนกับ Reported Statement แต่จะมีจุดที่แตกต่างกัน ดังนี้นะคะ

  1. ใช้กริยานำ คือ tell/told (บอก), order/ordered (สั่ง), ask/asked (ขอร้อง), command/commanded (สั่ง)

  2. ถอดเครื่องหมายคำพูดออก

  3. เราจะใช้ to + V1 ในการขอร้อง แนะนำ บอก หรือ สั่งให้ทำ ถ้าเป็นปฏิเสธหรือห้ามทำ ให้ใช้

    not to + V1 อีกประการหนึ่งก็คือถ้าประโยค Direct Speech นั้นไม่มีกรรม ให้เติมกรรมลงไปในประโยค Indirect Speech ด้วย และถ้าหากมีคำว่า “Please” ในประโยค Direct Speech ให้ตัดทิ้งด้วยเช่นกัน เช่น

Direct Speech: He asked, “Please let me go to the party.”
Indirect Speech: He asked me to let her go to the party.

Direct Speech: Doctor advised, “Don’t smoke”
Indirect Speech: Doctor advised me not to smoke.

  1. เปลี่ยนสรรพนามตามความเหมาะสม

 

หลักการเปลี่ยนประโยคคำถาม – Question

ในการเปลี่ยนประโยคคำถามจะแบ่งออกเป็น 2 ลักษณะคือ

  1. ประโยคคำถามที่เป็น Yes/No question

ในประโยคคำถามเราจะไม่ใช้กริยาในประโยคหลักเป็น say/said แล้ว แต่จะใช้เป็น ask, inquire, want to know หรือ wonder แทน ส่วน Tense ก็จะมีการเปลี่ยนเช่นเดียวกับประโยคบอกเล่า

ในประโยคคำถามจะใช้ if, whether, whether…or not หรือ whether or not ในการเชื่อมประโยคแทน และจะไม่ใส่เครื่องหมาย ? ท้ายประโยค รูปประโยคจึงมีหน้าตาเหมือนกับประโยคบอกเล่าธรรมดา แต่มีความหมายเป็นคำถาม ตัวอย่างเช่น

  • They asked if they could leave then.

  • Sarah wanted to know that whether the Minister had answered her questions or not.

  • He wondered if that soup tasted good.

  1. ประโยคคำถามที่ขึ้นต้นด้วย Wh-question

    คำกริยาหลักในประโยคยังคงเหมือนกับแบบ Yes/No question เพียงแต่ใช้คำแสดงคำถามหรือ Wh-question words เข้ามาเชื่อมประโยคแทน และการเรียงลำดับคำในประโยคจะเรียงเหมือนกับประโยคบอกเล่า (ประธาน + (กริยาช่วย) + กริยา + กรรม) จะไม่เหมือนการเรียงประโยคคำถาม ( Wh-words + กริยาช่วย + ประธาน + กริยา) เช่น

Direct speech : They asked, “Who can speak English?”
Indirect speech : They asked who could speak English.

Direct Speech: He said to her, “How did you make it?”
Indirect Speech: He asked her how she had done it.

กฏของการเปลี่ยน Indirect Question
1. ถอดเครื่องหมายคำพูด (Quotation mark) ออก
2. reporting verb ต้องเป็น ask , asks หรือ asked แล้วตามด้วยคำเชื่อม ถ้าคำถามเดิมขึ้นต้นด้วย Question Word ก็ใช้เชื่อมได้เลย แต่ถ้าคำถามเดิมขึ้นต้นด้วย Helping V. ให้ใช้ if หรือ whether เชื่อม
3. การลำดับคำให้อยู่ในรูปประโยคบอกเล่า ตัดเครื่องหมาย ? ออกใส่ full stop แทน
4. มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงสรรพนามให้เหมาะสม และเปลี่ยนแปลง Tense ถ้ากริยานำเป็น Past

Direct Objects and Indirect Objects This video briefly reviews and builds upon Identifying Direct Objects. Students are led through a procedure to find the subject, verb, and direct object of sentences, revealing the indirect object within the process. Examples are reinforced through video imagery, auditory voiceover, and “wait time” to encourage students to participate actively in their own learning opportunity. Humor is at the heart of this video, engaging students in an entertaining way while keeping the focus educational and informative. An understanding of the relationship between nouns and verbs coupled with prior knowledge of direct objects is recommended for participation with this video resource to be optimal.
