5. การใช้โครงสร้าง Verbs + Someone + verb
หลังคำกริยาภาษาอังกฤษต่อไปนี้ จะตามด้วยคำนามหรือคำสรรพนาม และคำกริยา เช่น
See เห็น , notice สังเกต , observe สังเกตเห็น , hear ได้ยิน , feel รู้สึก

แปลว่า ฉันได้ยินบางคนเคาะประตู

ข้อควรรู้เพิ่มเติม
หลังคำกริยาดังกล่าวข้างต้น อาจจะตามด้วยกริยาเติม ing ได้ เมื่อต้องการมุ่งความสนใจไปที่การกระทำ (action) ตัวอย่างประโยคภาษาอังกฤษ เช่น
I heard someone knocking at the door.
แปลว่า ฉันได้ยินคนกำลังเคาะประตู
I felt something crawling under my feet.
แปลว่า ฉันรู้สึกว่ามีบางอย่างกำลังคลานอยู่ใต้เท้า
6. การใช้โครงสร้าง Wh words + to + verb
ผู้เรียนภาษาอังกฤษสามารถใช้ to ตามด้วยคำกริยา หลัง WH words ต่อไปนี้ เช่น how, where, when, what

การบอกเวลาในภาษาอังกฤษเป็นอีกสิ่งที่เราควรรู้ไว้ เวลาเราต้องสื่อสารเรื่องเวลากับคนต่างชาติ เราจะได้สื่อสารได้ถูก ไม่เกิดความผิดพลาดจนทำให้เสียการเสียงาน
สำหรับคนที่ยังไม่แม่นเรื่องการบอกเวลาเป็นภาษาอังกฤษก็สามารถวางใจได้ เพราะในบทความนี้ ชิววี่ได้รวบรวมคำอธิบายให้เข้าใจได้ง่ายๆ ถ้าเพื่อนๆพร้อมแล้ว เราไปดูกันเลย
การบอกเวลาในภาษาอังกฤษ
การบอกเวลาเป็นภาษาอังกฤษหลักๆแล้วทำได้
2 แบบ คือ
1. บอกชั่วโมงก่อน แล้วตามด้วยนาที
วิธีนี้เราสามารถอ่านตัวเลขได้ตรงๆเลย
6.19 – It’s six nineteen.
9.05 – It’s nine oh-five. (oh อ่านว่า โอ)
8.40 – It’s eight forty.
7.54 – It’s seven fifty-four.
2. บอกนาทีก่อน แล้วตามด้วยชั่วโมง
สำหรับช่วง 1 – 30 นาที เราจะใช้คำว่า after (นิยมใช้ใน American English) หรือ past (นิยมใช้ใน British English) แล้วตามด้วยชั่วโมงปัจจุบัน (เป็นการบอกว่าผ่านชั่วโมงปัจจุบันมากี่นาทีแล้ว)
สำหรับช่วง 31 – 59 นาที เราจะใช้คำว่า to แล้วตามด้วยชั่วโมงถัดไป (เป็นการบอกว่าอีกกี่นาทีจะถึงชั่วโมงถัดไป)
วิธีที่ 2
นี้อาจสับสนเล็กน้อยสำหรับคนที่ยังไม่คุ้น
6.19 – It’s nineteen after/past six. (ผ่าน 6 โมงมา 19 นาทีแล้ว)
9.05 – It’s five after/past nine. (ผ่าน 9 โมงมา 5 นาทีแล้ว)
8.40 – It’s twenty to nine. (อีก 20 นาทีจะถึง 9 โมง)
7.54 – It’s six to eight. (อีก 6 นาทีจะถึง 8 โมง)
กรณี 15, 30, 45, 0 นาที
ตอน 15, 30, 45 และ 0 นาที เราจะอ่านเวลาต่างจากปกติ
ถ้าเป็นตอน 15 นาที เราจะใช้ quarter after/past แล้วตามด้วยชั่วโมงปัจจุบัน (quarter แปลว่า หนึ่งในสี่ส่วน ในที่นี้จะหมายถึง 1/4 ของ 60 นาที ซึ่งก็คือ 15 นาทีนั่นเอง)
9.15 – It’s quarter after/past nine. (ผ่าน 9 โมงมา 15 นาทีแล้ว)
ถ้าเป็นตอน 45 นาที เราจะใช้ quarter to แล้วตามด้วยชั่วโมงถัดไป
9.45 – It’s quarter to ten. (อีก 15 นาทีจะถึง 10 โมง)
ตอน 30 นาที เรานิยมใช้ half past (เราจะไม่ใช้ half after)
6.30 – It’s half past six.
ตอน 0 นาที เรานิยมใช้ o’clock (อ่านว่า โอ-คล็อก ย่อมาจาก of the clock)
6.00 – It’s six o’clock.
เพิ่มเติม
ในการบอกเวลา เราจะใช้ a หน้า quarter หรือไม่ก็ได้ ด้วยเหตุนี้ เราจึงเห็นบางที่ใช้ It’s quarter… แต่บางที่ก็ใช้ It’s a quarter…
ในภาษาพูด บางครั้งเราอาจได้ยินคนใช้คำว่า till และ before แทนคำว่า to โดยเฉพาะใน American English เช่น It’s ten till six. หรือ It’s ten before six. (มีความหมายเหมือน It’s ten to six. ซึ่งก็คือ 5.50 น.)

ตอนนี้กี่โมง
ถ้าอยากให้สุภาพขึ้น เราอาจถามว่า

การถามเวลาสำหรับเหตุการณ์หรือกิจกรรมต่างๆจะใช้

การประชุมเริ่มกี่โมง

คุณจะเลิกงานเมื่อไหร่

การใช้ a.m. และ p.m.
a.m. ย่อมาจาก ante meridiem เป็นภาษาลาติน แปลว่า ก่อนเที่ยง
p.m. ย่อมาจาก post meridiem เป็นภาษาลาติน แปลว่า หลังเที่ยง
ทั้งชาวอเมริกันและบริติชจะนิยมใช้ระบบเวลาแบบ 12 ชั่วโมง ดังนั้น เพื่อป้องกันการสับสน (เช่น 2.00 อาจหมายถึงบ่ายสอง หรือ ตีสองก็ได้) จึงมีการใช้ a.m. และ p.m. เพื่อเป็นตัวบอก ว่าเป็นช่วงเวลาก่อนหรือหลังเที่ยง

ปกติถ้าเราถามตอบเวลาในปัจจุบัน
เราไม่จำเป็นต้องบอกว่าเป็น a.m. หรือ p.m.
เพราะต่างฝ่ายต่างก็รู้อยู่แล้วว่าตอนนี้เป็นช่วงเวลาไหน
แต่ถ้าเป็นการพูดถึงเวลาในอดีตหรืออนาคต
เราอาจต้องบอกว่าเป็นช่วงเวลาใด เพื่อป้องกันการสับสน เช่น
Tomorrow I have to be at the airport before 5 a.m.
พรุ่งนี้ฉันต้องถึงสนามบินก่อนตีห้า
หรือเราอาจใช้คำอื่น อย่างเช่น in the morning (แทน a.m.), in the afternoon (แทน p.m.), at night (แทน p.m. ในช่วงเวลาดึกๆ) แทน a.m. และ p.m. ก็ได้ เช่น

Dancing squid
Soy sauce can spice up a dish for sure, but who knew it was powerful enough to bring a squid back to life?! This squid dish is known as the dancing squid rice bowl or Odoridon in Japanese. Even though the cuttlefish is dead here, it still moves like it’s not. It’s not magic, it’s science. The squid is fully intact, so even if there’s no brain inside, the muscle cells are still there.
They react to the sodium chloride or salt in the soy sauce. The muscle cells send electrical commands and the squid starts to do a belly dance! The muscles still have some ATP in them, the main source of energy. When the salt in soy reaches the muscle, the cephalopod basically starts to spasm.
Cockroaches
We’ve all heard that cockroaches are absolutely indestructible. They can even survive a nuclear bomb! Some say they can live without their head too. Unlike humans, these cockroaches breathe through a whole network of pipes connected to holes called the spiracles. Moreover, they don’t really have blood so there’s not much circulation of oxygen.
Their brain only handles the main sensory input coming in from their eyes and antennae. Many other behaviors such as running and reacting to touch are controlled by ganglia in each segment of their bodies. So once their head hits off, they can still go on about their day like nothing happened! In fact, the only problem will be that they won’t have a way of ingesting food. We call it the allnew cockroach diet!
