คำกริยาในภาษาอังกฤษ ถือเป็นหัวใจสำคัญเลยก็ว่าได้ เพราะมีบทบาทคอยกำกับประโยคว่าจะเป็นสถานการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นอย่างไร ตอนไหน ในภาษาอังกฤษแบ่งคำกริยาออกเป็น Regular verb ซึ่งก็คือ กริยาปกติ และ Irregular verb ซึ่งก็คือ กริยาไม่ปกติ วิธีการดูเราจะดูอย่างไร? เราก็ดูตอนที่เป็นกริยารูปอดีตนั่นเองค่ะ กริยารูปอดีตก็คือกริยาช่องที่ 2 ซึ่งในภาษาอังกฤษมีกริยาอยู่ 3 ช่อง แต่อย่าไปพูดว่า กริยาช่องที่ 1 ช่องที่ 2 และช่องที่ 3 กับฝรั่ง นะคะ เพราะเขาไม่รู้จักกริยา 3 ช่อง แต่กริยาช่องที่ 1 เขาจะเรียกว่า based form กริยาช่องที่ 2 มีชื่อเรียกว่า past simple และกริยาช่องที่ 3 เรียกว่า past participle
1. Regular verb เวลาที่ทำเป็นกริยาช่องที่ 2 คือรูปอดีต past tense จะเติม ed เข้าไปที่หลังคำกริยา ซึ่งจะมีกฎการเติมดังนี้ค่ะ
1.1 คำกริยาที่ลงท้ายด้วย e ให้เติม d ได้เลย เช่น
hope – hoped = หวัง love – loved = รัก
move – move = เคลื่อน live – lived = อาศัยอยู่
1.2 กริยาที่ลงท้าย ด้วย y และหน้า y เป็นพยัญชนะ ให้เปลี่ยน y เป็น i แล้วเติม ed เช่น
cry – cried = ร้องไห้ marry – married = แต่งงาน
try – tried = พยายาม
* แต่ในกรณีที่กริยาที่ลงท้าย ด้วย y แต่หน้า y เป็นสระ (a/e/i/o/u) ใหเติม ed ได้เลยเช่น
enjoy – enjoyed = สนุก play – played = เล่น
1.3 กริยาที่มีพยางค์เดียวและเป็นสระเสียงสั้น ให้เพิ่มพยัญชนะที่ลงท้ายอีก 1 ตัว แล้วเติม ed เช่น
plan – planned = วางแผน stop – stopped = หยุด
beg – begged = ขอร้อง
1.4 ในกรณีที่กริยาที่มี 2 พยางค์ แต่ลงเสียงหนักพยางค์หลัง และพยางค์หลังนั้นเป็นสระเสียงสั้นก็ให้เพิ่มพยัญชนะที่ลงท้ายอีก 1 ตัว แล้วเติม ed เช่น
concur – concurred = ตกลง, เห็นด้วย occur – occurred = เกิดขึ้น
refer – referred = อ้างถึง permit – permitted = อนุญาต
* แต่ !! มีข้อยกเว้น ถ้าออกเสียงหนักที่พยางค์แรก ไม่ต้องเติมพยัญชนะตัวสุดท้ายเข้ามา ยกตัวอย่างเช่น
cover – covered = ปกคลุม open – opened = เปิด
1.5 นอกจากกฎที่กล่าวมาแล้ว กริยาตัวอื่นเมื่อต้องการให้เป็นช่อง 2 ให้เติม ed ได้เลย เช่น
talk – talked = พูด start – started = เริ่ม
worked – worked = ทำงาน walk – walked = เดิน
2. Irregular verb หรือกริยาไม่ปกติ คือกริยาที่เมื่อทำเป็นรูปอดีตหรือกริยาช่องที่ 2 จะไม่มีการเติม ed แต่จะมีการเปลี่ยนรูป การเปลี่ยนรูปมี 3 รูปแบบด้วยกันคือ
2.1 Irregular verb ที่มี past tense (กริยาช่องที่ 2) และ past participle (กริยาช่องที่ 3) เหมือนกัน เช่น
tell told told บอก
find found found ค้นหา
2.2 Irregular verb ที่แตกต่างกันทั้งสามช่อง เช่น
speak spoke spoke พูด
take took taken นำไป, เอาไป
2.3 Irregular verb ที่ไม่เปลี่ยนแปลงคือเหมือนกันทั้งสามช่อง เช่น
put put put วาง
shut shut shut ปิด

2: DRESS UP
This means to wear something formal or smarter than your normal clothes. Wearing a shirt to a birthday party, for example.
