What have you been up to? What does this mean? In this short REAL English lesson we are going to find out!
In English when we want to ask what someone has been doing since we last saw them, we use the informal expression, \”What have you been up to?\”. You might hear Native English Speakers using this almost every time they see or meet one of their friends or colleagues. It is an informal way to ask what someone HAS BEEN DOING. We can answer this by saying, \”I’ve been working\” or \”I’ve been relaxing at home\”. We use I’VE BEEN + VERB (ING) E.G \”I’ve been watchING TV\”.
We can also ask, \”What did you get up to last night?\” to ask about WHAT SOMEONE DID at a specific point in time. We answer this with things like, \”Last night I read a book\” or \”Last night I watched TV\”.
