Why You Understand English But Can’t Speak Fluently

Do you ever wonder why you can UNDERSTAND a lot of English but not COMMUNICATE FLUENTLY?
Well, I recently got this comment on a YouTube video from someone named Yahyo.
I don’t understand why I can’t speak or write like you, but I can understand almost every person who speaks like you in English. When I try to speak or write in English, my words disappear in my mind. What’s the problem with my mind, Teacher? I look for words during conversations.
If you have this problem, it’s NOT your fault. I truly believe that ANYONE can become a fluent speaker of English, but that traditional schools make communication very difficult.
The REAL problem is that traditional lessons put EXTRA STEPS between you and the English you want to learn. Steps like rule memorization, confusing explanations and translations. So when you try to speak, you must REVERSE these steps, making you lose your words, think and translate in conversations.
Now, there IS actually a very simple solution to this common problem, but before I share it, here’s a quick quiz:
Question 1. Can you name 10 Will Smith movies? I’ll give you a few seconds.
Question 2. Which of these 10 Will Smith movies do you like?
The second question was a LOT easier than the first, right?
Try two more questions:
Question 1. Will Smith’s latest movie is Aladdin. What movie did he appear in right before Aladdin?
Question 2. Do you think the visual effects in the new Aladdin movie look real or fake?
Again, the second question was MUCH easier than the first.
So what movie did Will Smith appear in before Aladdin? An Indian movie called Student of the Year 2.
Now, you likely didn’t know that, even if you’re a Will Smith fan, but can you remember what YOU had for lunch two days ago?
Even recent things in our OWN lives are difficult to RECALL.
But we can very easily RECOGNIZE things when we have options to choose from.
This is why shopping websites show you your search history, and why a cooking site might show you some meals to CHOOSE, rather than ask you to REMEMBER your favorite foods.
So what does all this mean for English learners like you?
When you listen or read, you’re RECOGNIZING information. But when you SPEAK, you must RECALL information instantly to communicate without hesitation.
See why so many people can UNDERSTAND what I’m saying right now but not SPEAK like I do?
You already know how hard it is to RECALL information, even with things in YOUR language in YOUR life. But do you now understand why fluent communication becomes EVEN MORE DIFFICULT when you add the extra steps of traditional English lessons?
So what’s the solution?
With time, you can become an automatic speaker by learning conversational, spoken English – all in English – in simple, easy steps.
But because I know you want something that will help you improve your speaking RIGHT NOW, let me share a secret I discovered about remembering words that helped me become a fluent speaker of Japanese.
It’s a simple trick taken from the world of BUSINESS, not language learning, and it can help you express yourself more quickly and naturally, like natives do, TODAY.
