เพลงอาทิตย์อับแสง หรือ Blue Day ทรงพระราชนิพนธ์เมื่อวันพุธที่ 3 กุมภาพันธ์ พ.ศ. 2492 ขณะประทับแรมบนภูเขาในเมืองดาฟอส ประเทศสวิตเซอร์แลนด์
สมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์ พระบรมราชินีนาถ ขณะยังทรงเป็นหม่อมราชวงศ์สิริกิติ์ กิติยากร ทรงขับร้องเพลงพระราชนิพนธ์ Blue Day พร้อมด้วย เพลงพระราชนิพนธ์ Dream of Love Dream of You หลังพระกระยาหารค่ำในงานเลี้ยง ณ สถานเอกอัครราชทูตไทย ประจำกรุงลอนดอน เมื่อวันที่ 12 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2492 ก่อนที่พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวจะพระราชทานพระธำมรงค์หมั้นในวันนั้น
วิตดิวัต พันธุรักษ์ ขออัญเชิญบทเพลงพระราชนิพนธ์นี้มาขับร้อง เพื่อแสดงให้ทุกคนได้ทราบถึงพระอัจฉริยภาพทางด้านดนตรีของพระองค์ท่าน
ด้วยสำนึกในพระมหากรุณาธิคุณอย่างหาที่สุดมิได้ ด้วยเกล้า ด้วยกระหม่อม
