Sentence or Fragment? | Identifying Sentences and Sentence Fragments

Sentence or Fragment? | Identifying Sentences and Sentence Fragments
A sentence is a word group that contains a subject and a verb and that expresses a complete thought.
A thought is complete when it makes sense by itself.
For example:
The sick man had forgotten to take his medicine.
For how many years have you been married?
A sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with a period, a question mark, or an exclamation point.
Do not confuse a sentence with a sentence fragment. A sentence fragment is a group of words that does not have a subject, a verb, or both.
SENTENCE FRAGMENT:
Athletes representing the 30 schools.
SENTENCE:
Athletes representing the 30 schools competed at the Penn Relays.
SENTENCE FRAGMENT:
practices every day for the competition.
SENTENCE:
The band practices every day for the competition.
Also, a group of words may have a subject and verb but is still a sentence fragment because it does not express a complete idea.
SENTENCE FRAGMENT:
The jeep designed for rough conditions.
SENTENCE:
The jeep has been designed for rough conditions.
