รายการที่เป็น GAAP กับ Non-GAAP คืออะไร ต่างกันยังไง ?
มีนักเรียนเรามีคำถามนี้หลังจากไปอ่านพวกรายงานประจำปีกับงบการเงินของบริษัทต่างประเทศ
จริงๆเรื่องนี้ไม่มีอะไรมาก GAAP คือมาตรฐานบัญชีของสหรัฐอเมริกาย่อมาจาก Generally Accepted Accounting Principles รายการอะไรก็แล้วแต่ที่ตาม GAAP ก็คือเป็นรายการที่รายงานตามมาตรฐานบัญชี อย่างเช่น Net Income, Revenue, Gross Profit, Operating Profit, Reported EPS, ฯลฯ พวกนี้จะมีกฎค่อนข้างตายตัวและโดยปกติคือสามารถใข้เปรียบเทียบข้ามบริษัทได้
ส่วน NonGAAP ก็ตามชื่อคือรายการที่ไม่ได้อยู่ในมาตรฐานบัญชีแต่บริษัทอยากรายงานให้ผู้ถือหุ้นทราบ อาจจะเพราะบริษัทเชื่อว่ามันจะทำให้ผู้ถือหุ้นเข้าใจบริษัทได้ดีขึ้นหรือสะท้อนผลประกอบการได้ดีกว่า ซึ่งมีทั้งที่เราเห็นทั่วไปจนบางทีนึกว่าเป็น GAAP อย่างเช่น EBIT, EBITDA และพวกที่ชัดเจนว่าแล้วแต่บริษัทเช่น Restaurant Margin, Adjusted Net Income, Funds from Operation, ฯลฯ โดยปกติพวกนี้มันจะแล้วแต่นิยามของแต่ละบริษัทให้ความหมาย ถ้าเราจะเอาตัวเลขนี้ของบริษัทนึงเปรียบเทียบกับอีกบริษัทอาจจะต้องใช้ความระมัดระวังมาก ต้องดูในรายละเอียดว่ามันอันเดียวกันหรือเปล่าสมควรเปรียบเทียบกับจริงมั้ย เช่นอย่าง Adjusted Net Income คำว่า Adjusted นี่คือเรารู้ว่ามันมีการตัดหรือเพิ่มบางอย่างแน่ ไม่ใช่ Net Income ปกติตาม GAAP แต่คนละบริษัทก็อาจจะตัดหรือเพิ่มรายการที่ไม่เหมือนกันดังนั้น Adjusted Net Income ถึงแม้จะชื่อเหมือนกันแต่ก็อาจจะเทียบกันตรงๆไม่ได้

สรุปคือ GAAP กับ NonGAAP ก็คือตามหรือไม่ตามมาตรฐานบัญชีเท่านั้นเอง NonGAAP ก็ไม่ได้แปลว่ามีปัญหาอะไรนะ แค่ว่าเราต้องทำความเข้าใจว่ามันคืออะไรเวลาอ่านเท่านั้นเอง หลายครั้งก็มีประโยชน์นะ หลายธุรกิจมันก็อาจจะมีอัตราส่วนทางการเงินหรือตัวเลขบางตัวที่เฉพาะธุรกิจนั้นๆอยู่ สุดท้ายที่จะฝากคือถ้าไม่ใช่ US มาตรฐานบัญชีส่วนใหญ่จะอิง IFRS ดังนั้นถ้าบริษัทที่ไม่ใช่ US บางทีเราก็จะเห็น IFRS กับ NonIFRS ซึ่งก็คือความหมายเดียวกันกับ GAAP กับ NonGAAP ครับ
