10 Things You Didn’t Know About Chad
Top 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Chad
Hello Displorers, welcome to another exciting video presented to you by Displore and thanks for watching. In this video, we shall be looking at the top things you didn’t know about chad.Chad is a landlocked country in northcentral Africa bordered by Libya to the north, Sudan to the east, the Central African Republic to the south, Cameroon to the southwest, Nigeria to the southwest, and Niger to the west.Chad has several regions: a desert zone in the north, an arid Sahelian belt in the centre and a more fertile Sudanian Savanna zone in the south. Lake Chad, after which the country is named, is the largest wetland in Chad and the secondlargest in Africa. The capital N’Djamena is the largest city, official languages are Arabic and French but Chad is home to over 200 different ethnic and linguistic groups. Chad remains plagued by political violence and recurrent attempted coups d’état. Chad is one of the poorest and most corrupt countries in the world; most inhabitants live in poverty as subsistence herders and farmers. Since 2003 crude oil has become the country’s primary source of export earnings, superseding the traditional cotton industry. Chad has a poor human rights record, with frequent abuses such as arbitrary imprisonment, extrajudicial killings, and limits on civil liberties by both security forces and armed militias.

Here are top 10 things you probably didn’t know about chad.
1. Chad Is Named After Its Most Popular Lake, Lake Chad.
Lake Chad used to be the seventh largest lake in the world and the fourth largest in Africa. However, due to advanced desertification and low rainfall, it has shrunk to less than 10% of its former size and volume. Lake Chad is however the largest lake in the Chad Basin. The freshwater lake that touches base with Nigeria, Cameroon, and Niger is where the country got its name.
2. Crude Oil Is its Economy’s Engine
The oil rich nation was first known for its cotton which brought significant wealth to the nation before the discovery of oil in 2003.The first oil pipeline runs through Cameroon, connecting the Doba Basin to the port of Kribi producing 94,000barrels of crude oil daily.Chad’s energy sector has had years of mismanagement by the parastatal Chad Water and Electric Society, which provides power for 15% of the capital’s citizens and covers only 1.5% of the national population. Most Chadians burn biomass fuels such as wood and animal manure for power which is such a pity for a country rich enough to more than provide energy for its citizens. Hopefully, the Inga dam project will spin the energy fate of the country around.

History of Chad
Chad also known as the Republic of Chad is situated in Central Africa. It borders Libya, Sudan, Central Africa Republic, Cameroon, Nigeria, Niger to the north, east, south, southwest, west respectively. It is called the Dead Heart of Africa for its hot climate and distance from the sea. The capital of Chad is N’Djamena. The population of Chad as of 2018 is over 15 million. The lingua franca of the Chadians are Arabic and French and there are over 200 ethnic groups in Chad with 51.8% being Muslims and 41.4% Christians. Islam and Christianity are the main religions practiced by the Chadians, though the Islamic religion is predominant. Some of the ethnic groups include; Arab, Kanembu, Masalit, Toubou, Masa, Bidio, Boulala, Marba, Dadjo, Moundang. There’s a division between North and South in Chad that changed the politics in the country. Muslim nomadic farmers dominate the Northern part of Chad, while the Christian Farmers dominate the Southern part. Ouadai, Baguimi, and Kanem Bornu were the three Kingdoms until it was compressed into one country called Chad.
There was an intruder from Sudan who fought against the three Kingdoms. Then France took over Chad from the Sudanese. The National Liberation Front of Chad (FROLINAT) was formed when rebellion arose in the Northern part of Chad. This occurred in 1965. It got intense when BorokuEnnediTibesti (BET) allied with FROLINAT.
Primitive Fishing at the Stream (episode 05)
As my food rations are running out, I pause the shelter building project and hike to the stream to prepare primitive tools to catch fish. Utilizing yucca, a cactus thorn, and a long green branch I make a simple fishing rod, line and hook to try my luck at acquiring food. Fish are a good source of protein and fat, as well as other essential nutrients. This series will be ongoing so be sure to stay tuned for the next video.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):
Who films you?
Me. I travel alone, shoot, edit, upload, everything, all alone. On a few occasions I may be accompanied by a friend.
How many cameras do you use?
Usually I use just one camera. When I have underwater scenes then I also use a GoPro camera. I get different angles by moving the camera around and repeating the action to create a more cinematic viewing experience for the audience.
Where is this place?
In order to protect the integrity of the natural landscape I prefer to be very vague about the locations I use. There are places that I used to visit that were so beautiful and untouched but the consequences of social media brought all kinds of people to visit and sadly some people do not respect nature and have badly damaged these places. Therefore I do not share locations.
Where did you get your sandals?
I first started wearing sandals on outdoor adventures in February 2014. I’m so glad that I did because wearing these Luna Sandals has really helped strengthen my feet. You can see their selection of adventure and running sandals at this link: https://www.lunasandals.com/?rfsn=102280.45562&utm_source=refersion&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=102280.45562
(Note: I receive an affiliate commission from any sales derived from clicking on the link above)
Do you workout?
Yes, I workout, but not in a gym. I have some weights that I use and also do a lot of bodyweight exercises. I also run and sometimes swim. I hike frequently to collect wild foods and to shoot these videos so I’m very active all the time.
Are you vegan or vegetarian?
I wish I could maintain my health on a primal diet that does not include animals but unfortunately that did not work well and I ended up with health problems as a result of those attempts. From my studies, observations of nature, and personal experience I have come to believe that the best diet for optimal human health is a primal diet (paleo).
Do you get lonely when you’re alone?
No, I don’t get lonely. I’m actually so busy shooting video, taking photos and doing so many other things like making cordage, cooking, weaving, etc. that I really don’t have time to think about my lonely condition. Sometimes when something profound happens on an adventure I can’t wait to share it with people, but other than that I do not get lonely.
How many languages do you speak?
My first language is English but I also speak fluent Spanish and Portuguese. I also speak very little Russian. I may soon begin learning more languages.
How old are you?
I was born in 1972. At the time of this video I was 48.
Where did you get the music in your videos?
This series is the first one that I am making all the music myself. I recently made a drum and maracas (rumba shaker). I am now using them to create the intro and ending music in my videos, but before in the past I have used royalty free music from several sources including YouTube. Sometimes I bought the music but usually it was free.

We are so Glad, glad, GLAD
That you’re visiting the country of Chad
We’re the 23 Regions that will brag
About our country that’s so rad
Welcome to Chad

I’m the region of Lac
And I house Lake Chad

We are so glad, glad, GLAD
That you’re visiting the country of Chad
