อีกหัวข้อในภาษาอังกฤษที่ทุกคนต้องรู้ก็คือการเปรียบเทียบขั้นกว่า (comparative) และขั้นสุด (superlative) ซึ่งชิววี่ก็ได้เรียบเรียงเนื้อหาคำอธิบายมาไว้ในบทความนี้แล้ว

เนื้อหาในนี้จะมีทั้งหลักการแปลงคำให้เป็นคำเปรียบเทียบขั้นกว่าและขั้นสุด และหลักการใช้ เอาล่ะ ถ้าเพื่อนๆพร้อมแล้ว เราไปดูกันเลย

การเปรียบเทียบขั้นกว่า (Comparative)

การเปรียบเทียบขั้นกว่าคือ การบอกว่าคุณสมบัติของสิ่งใดๆมากกว่าของอีกสิ่งหนึ่ง เช่น ยาวกว่า สั้นกว่า ฯลฯ อย่างเช่นในประโยค

My brother is taller than me.
พี่ชายของฉันตัวสูงกว่าฉัน

การเปลี่ยนคำให้เป็นขั้นกว่า

ในการเปรียบเทียบขั้นกว่า เราจะต้องใช้คำที่อยู่ในรูปขั้นกว่า ซึ่งแปลงมาจากคำปกติ เช่น tall แปลว่าสูง เมื่อแปลงเป็นรูปขั้นกว่าจะกลายเป็น taller ซึ่งแปลว่าสูงกว่า

การเปลี่ยนคำให้เป็นขั้นกว่า ทำได้โดย
1. เติม er ต่อท้าย สำหรับคำ 1 พยางค์
cheap -> cheaper
slow -> slower
large -> larger (ลงท้ายด้วย e เติม r ได้เลย)
thin -> thinner (บางคำต้องซ้ำอักษรท้ายก่อนเติม er)

2. เปลี่ยน y เป็น i แล้วเติม er สำหรับคำ 2 พยางค์ที่ลงท้ายด้วย y (y -> ier)

pretty -> prettier

3. ใช้ more นำหน้า สำหรับคำ 2 พยางค์ขึ้นไป

4. ใช้ more นำหน้า สำหรับ adverb ที่ลงท้ายด้วย ly

5. คำคุณศัพท์ 2 พยางค์บางคำ ใช้ได้ทั้ง er และ more

6. บางคำจะมีรูปพิเศษเฉพาะ
