วันนี้เรามาเรียนรู้วิธีการนับเลขภาษาอังกฤษ เพื่อเป็นพื้นฐานการพูดภาษาอังกฤษในส่วนอื่น ๆ ต่อไป เพราะชีวิตคนเราต้องมีตัวเลขเข้ามาเกี่ยวข้องกันไม่มากก็น้อย เช่นกัน การบอกเวลา การบอกราคาสินค้า การบอกจำนวนต่าง ๆ ของสิ่งของ หรือการบอกวันที่ ลำดับที่ต่าง ๆ วันนี้เรามาเริ่มเรียนการนับเลข ภาษาอังกฤษ และเรียนรู้ชนิดตัวเลขในภาษาอังกฤษกันค่ะ

วิธีการนับเลขแบบต่าง ๆ ในภาษาอังกฤษ

ตัวเลขในภาษาอังกฤษมี 2 ชนิดคือ

• ตัวเลขจำนวนนับ Cardinal Numbers  เช่น 1 (one), 2 (two), 3(three), 4(four)
• ตัวเลขลำดับที่  Ordinal Numbers  เช่น 1st (first), 2nd (second), 3rd (third), 4th (fourth)

วิธีการใช้ตัวเลขแบบจำนวนนับ

• ใช้นับสิ่งของ   เช่น   There are three apples in the basket.
• ใช้บอกอายุ   เช่น   My son is thirteen years old.
• ใช้บอกเบอร์โทรศัพท์  เช่น My mobile number is two-tw0-one-six-nine-six.
• ใช้บอกปีพ.ศ. เช่น  He was born in nineteen eighty-five.

วิธีการใช้ตัวเลขแบบลำดับที่

หลักการง่าย ๆ คือ การเติม -th ไปที่ด้านหลังของตัวเลข แต่ก็มีตัวเลขบางตัวที่ต้องใช้คำเฉพาะ เช่น  the first – ลำดับที่หนึ่ง  the second – ลำดับที่สอง the third – ลำดับที่สาม

ใช้บอกวันที่ เช่น His birthday is on the 14th of April. (the fourteenth of april)

ใช้บอกลำดับขั้น เช่น Miami bull came second in the NBA league last year.

ใช้บอกชั้นของตึก เช่น Her room is on the nineth floor.

ถ้าเราจะหาปริมาณหรือจำนวนของสิ่งของ เราจะต้องขึ้นต้นประโยคคำถามด้วยคำว่า

จะต้องใช้กับนามนับได้ โดยคำนามจะอยู่ในรูปเอกพจน์หรือพหูพจน์ก็ได้

การละคำนาม

ในบางครั้งในประโยคคำถามจะละคำนามเอาไว้ในกรณีที่รู้อยู่แล้วว่าพูดถึงอะไรอยู่

ตัวอย่างเช่น

A: I would like to buy some cheese.

B: How much
(cheese) would you like?

จะเห็นว่า หลังคำว่า

How much

ไม่จำเป็นจะต้องใส่คำว่า

Cheese

อีกครั้งก็ได้ เพราะเรารู้แล้วว่าเขาพูดถึงอะไร
ดังนั้น โดยทั่วไปแล้วจะตัดคำนามแบบนี้ออกไปเพื่อไม่ให้ต้องพูดคำเดิมซ้ำๆ หลายรอบ
