It is believed by most IELTS and TOEFL essay graders that this is a bad opening sentence. The reason for this is that it unnecessarily uses a passive form. They recommend using the active voice unless there is a purpose to the passive.
In this video, we will look at the construction of the passive in all tenses and in combination with other structures. We will also look at the main reasons to use the passive, such as for variety, as a cohesive device, and others.
It is very important not only to know how to use this structure, but when to use it.

What are the active and passive voices in English? We use the active voice in a sentence when the subject performs a verb. For example: “Jim wrote a letter”. We use the passive voice when the subject is acted on by the verb. For example: “The letter was delivered by the postman”. Now, when should you use which voice? That is the question! In this English grammar lesson, I will teach you about using the active and passive voices. I will explain in more detail the difference between the two and give you lots of examples to solidify your understanding. I will also show you how to change a sentence from active to passive, or passive to active. You will learn some reasons why you might choose one or the other. This will help you in everyday speaking, as well as in writing, making your English more varied and interesting. How to use the PASSIVE VOICE structure
Here’s how to teach going from the active voice to PASSIVE VOICE in 4 easy steps.

How to Teach Passive Voice:
First, we look at why the Passive Structure is used, which is WHEN AN ACTION OR ITS RESULT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ITS CAUSE. We also see ways in which people have already been using passive from very early on.
Next, we go over the four steps to transform an active sentence into a passive one.
1. put the passive noun (object) before the verb
2.a. put the active noun (subject) after the verb and place \”by\” in between
2.b. throw the active noun away
3. add [to be] before the verb (in the same tense as the original verb]
4. change the main verb to the past participle form.
Finally, we see some common situations that the Passive Voice is used. One great example is within news headlines and stories.

Study this example situation: George is American. Nobody knows exactly where he is from, but: ‘It’s assumed that he’s from New York’ or ‘He’s assumed to be from New York’. Compare these:
Present Simple: It’s considered that they work hard./They are considered to work hard.
Present Continuous: It’s considred that they are working hard./They are considered to be working hard.
Future Simple: It’s expected that they’ll work hard./They are expected to work hard.
Past: It’s reported that they worked hard./They are reported to have worked hard.
