Cấu trúc It take và Spend là cặp cấu trúc vô cùng phổ biến và thường xuất hiện trong các bài tập viết lại câu hay chia động từ. Với nghĩa chỉ việc tiêu tốn thời gian/tiền bạc vào một việc gì thì chúng ta hay sử dụng cặp cấu trúc này. Cách dùng
– Sử dụng ‘It take’ để chỉ khối lượng thời gian cần thiết đối với bất kì ai để thực hiện, hoàn thành công việc nhất định. Khối lượng thời gian đó có thể là ước chừng hoặc là một con số cụ thể.
– Sử dụng ‘It take’ để chỉ khối lượng thời gian cần thiết đối với một đối tượng cụ thể để thực hiện, hoàn thành công việc nhất định.
Cấu trúc It take
It (take) + (time) + to + (verb)
➔ Dành, tốn bao nhiêu thời gian để làm việc gì đó
Ex: It takes ninety minutes to finish a football match.
(Cần đến 90 phút để kết thúc một trận bóng đá).
It (take) somebody + (time) + to + (verb)
➔ Ai đó dành/mất bao nhiêu thời gian để làm việc gì đó
Ex: It takes Arthur at least one hour to do his homework everyday.
(Arthur dành ít nhất một tiếng mỗi ngày để làm bài tập về nhà của mình)
Cách viết lại câu với It take
It (take) (somebody) + time + to do sth
= Somebody spend(s) + time + doing sth
Ex: It took us two days to paint our house.
(Chúng tôi mất hai ngày để sơn xong ngôi nhà của mình)
= We spent two days painting our house.
(Chúng tôi mất hai ngày để sơn xong ngôi nhà của mình)
Cấu trúc khác của It take
It take thể hiện bao nhiêu là cần thiết để hoàn thành công việc
Cấu trúc: It takes [quantity + noun] to + (verb)
Ex: It takes five liters of gas to fill the tank of a Honda SH mode motorcycle.
(Tốn khoảng 5 lít xăng để làm đầy bình xăng xe máy Honda SH)

Cấu trúc Spend
S + (spend) + something
Example:
– She had spent all her money.
(Cô ấy đã tiêu hết tiền)
– My family spent summer vacation in Sapa.
(Gia đình tôi đã đi du lịch ở Sapa vào mùa hè)
S + (spend) + time/money + doing something
Example:
– I spent five million dollar buying a duplex house.
(Tôi đã mua căn duplex với giá 5 triệu đô la)
– He spends 3 hours practicing vocal lessons everyday.
(Anh ấy dành ra 3 tiếng luyện thanh nhạc mỗi ngày)
S + (spend) + money/time + on something
Example:
– My mother has spent a lot of money on perfume.
(Mẹ tôi đã chi rất nhiều tiền để mua nước hoa)
– She spends a lot of time on her homework .
(Cô ấy dành rất nhiều thời gian làm bài tập)
Cách viết lại câu với Spend
It take (somebody) + time + to do sth
= Somebody spend(s) + time + doing sth
Example:
It took me 3 days to finish that book.
(Tôi đọc xong cuốn sách trong 3 ngày)
= I spent 3 days fixing my computer.
(Tôi sửa xong máy tính trong 3 ngày)
S + spend(s) + time / money + on + N/doing sth
= S + waste(s) + time / money + on + N/doing sth
Example:
He spent a great deal of money on computer game.
(Anh ấy dành một lượng tiền đáng kể vào các trò chơi điện tử)
= He wasted a great deal of money on computer game.
(Anh ấy tốn một lượng tiền đáng kể vào các trò chơi điện tử)

Example: My father spent a lot of money on repairing the rooftop.

Example:
My grandmother has spent most of her life in taking care of my family member.

*Note: Spend được dùng để chỉ việc sử dụng năng lượng, nỗ lực cho tới tận khi cạn kiệt.
S + spend + something + on + something
Example:
I tend to spend too much effort on unimportant matter.
(Tôi có xu hướng dành quá nhiều sự nỗ lực vào những vấn đề không quan trọng)
Spend itself = stop (dừng lại)
Example:
Fortunately, the hurricane finally spent itself.
(May mắn thay, cơn bão đã dừng lại)
