Stative verbs
Non–action verbs (or stative verbs) cannot be used in present continuous. They must be used in present simple. The most frequent are the verbs of the senses (hear, see, smell, look, seem, sound), verbs of opinion (believe, consider, like, love, hate, prefer, think, etc.) verbs of possession (have, own, belong, etc.). Other common non-action verbs are: agree, be, depend, need, mean, remember, realise, recognise, seem, want, etc.

need

[Update] Grammar: เทียบชัด ๆ ให้เคลียร์ หลักการใช้ Present simple กับ Present continuous | ข้อสอบ present simple and present continuous doc. – NATAVIGUIDES
ยังสับสนกันอยู่ใช่ไหม? ระหว่าง Present simple กับ Present continuous ว่าใช้งานต่างกันอย่างไร คราวนี้เราจะมาไขข้อข้องใจ อธิบายกันทีละ Tense พร้อมทั้งเปรียบเทียบให้เห็นกันชัด ๆ ไปเลย
Present Simple Tense
Present Simple Tense คือ การพูดถึงเรื่องทั่วไป เรื่องที่ทำซ้ำ ๆ ในปัจจุบัน
โครงสร้างประโยคของ Present Simple Tense
– S + V.1 ถ้าประธานเป็นเอกพจน์บุรุษที่ 3 (He, She, It, The library, a dog, etc…) กริยาต้องเติม s/es
He drives a taxi.
She eats pizza.
I live in Bangkok.
– S + Auxiliary Verb (กริยาช่วย) + V.1 (V.1 ไม่เติม s/es)
She can play tennis.
We must work hard.
หลักการใช้ Present Simple
1. ใช้พูดถึงสิ่งที่เป็นความจริงทั่วไป (ทั้งเรื่องเกี่ยวกับตัวเราและความจริงตามธรรมชาติ)
I live in Bangkok. (ฉันอาศัยอยู่ที่กรุงเทพ)
The earth moves round the sun. (โลกโคจรรอบดวงอาทิตย์)
2. ใช้พูดถึงนิสัย หรือกิจวัตรที่ทำเป็นประจำในปัจจุบัน
She eats fruit every day. (เธอกินผลไม้ทุกวัน)
I go to work by BTS. (ฉันไปทำงานโดยรถไฟฟ้าบีทีเอส)
ข้อสังเกต: เหตุการณ์หรือการกระทำที่ทำเป็นประจำมักมีคำบอกความถี่ (Adverbs of frequency) แสดงอยู่ในประโยค

Messi stops in mid-field and passes the ball to Suarez. (เมสซี่หยุดที่กลางสนามและผ่านบอลให้ซัวเรซ)

**eating ในที่นี่เป็น Gerund มีสถานะเป็นคำนาม หมายถึง การกิน
Present Continuous Tense
Present Continuous Tense คือ การพูดถึงเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นอยู่อย่างต่อเนื่องในขณะนั้น แต่จะสิ้นสุดในไม่ช้า
โครงสร้างของ Present Continuous Tense
S + V to be (is, am, are) + V ing

1. ใช้พูดถึงสิ่งที่กำลังทำหรือกำลังเกิดขึ้นอยู่ในขณะที่พูด
They are swimming in the pool. (พวกเขากำลังว่ายน้ำในสระว่ายน้ำ)

** เราสามารถเติมคำว่า just ข้างหน้า V ing เพื่อเน้นย้ำว่า กำลัง… ได้
