There are 12 questions in this quiz.
Brief description: Identify the conditional clause used in the following sentences.
TIMESTAMPS
00:00 Introduction

05:12 Zero conditional
05:48 First conditional
06:20 Second conditional

Conditionals
We use conditionals to express the result of a certain condition. We often call them ‘if clauses’, because they often begin the same way.
Conditional sentences consist of two parts: the conditional clause and the main clause.
The conditional clause tells you the condition and the main clause tells you the result of that condition.
Either the main clause or the conditional clause can be at the beginning.
Condition, + Result (with a comma after the condition) …. OR …
Result + Condition (without a comma)
There are four types of conditional sentences:
0 – The zero conditional
1 – The first conditional
2 – The second conditional
3 – The third conditional
Zero conditional
We use the zero conditional when we want to talk about facts that are generally true and do not change. So, if metal gets hot, it expands. If you heat water to 100°, it boils. If I don’t get enough sleep, I feel exhausted. There are scientific facts or general facts.
The structure is: if + present simple +present simple
First Conditional
We use the first conditional when we talk about a possible situation in the future.
The structure is: if + present simple + will + infinitive
If it rains tomorrow, will you go to the park?
Notice that we are talking about the future possibility that could easily come true. It is not raining yet. But you think that it could rain because the weather is not clear.
Second conditional
We use the second conditional when we talk about imaginary situations or imaginary abilities and their results.
Make the second conditional in this way. if + past simple+ would + infinitive.
If I won the lottery, I would buy a new car. But the truth is, I do not have a lottery ticket, and I cannot buy a new car.
You see, there is not a real possibility that this condition will happen.
Third conditional
We use the third conditional to talk about a situation in the past that didn’t happen.
To make a sentence in the third conditional, we use,
If + past perfect+would have + past participle
If he had worked harder, he would have passed his exams.
You talk about the past and cannot change it. He didn’t work hard so he didn’t pass the exam.
