Definition with Examples

Future Simple Tense is used to express the actions that are supposed to take place in the future. It could relate to the actions that could happen both in the near as well as late future, it may or may not have any time reference. Consider the following sentences in Future Simple Tense-

  • I shall go to school tomorrow.
  • She will pay her dues.
  • He will call you.
  • They will leave early.
  • She will go to the doctor.
  • We shall go to the amusement park today.
  • Children will play in the garden.
  • He will come tomorrow.
  • He will appear before the jury.

Note- Grammatically ‘will‘ should be used with third person pronoun i.e. – he, she, you, they etc and ‘shall’ should be used for first person pronouns- we, I.

There are many ways in which a future action can be expressed; we will go through the details separately. For just your reference some negative and interrogative Simple Future Tenses are given below.

Negative Sentences-

  • I shall not go to school tomorrow.

  • She will not go to the doctor.

Interrogative Sentences-

  • Will the work be completed on time?

Below we will understand Positive, Negative and Interrogative sentences in Future Simple Tense with help of examples and exercises.

a) Positive Sentences

Structure/Formula for Positive Sentences in Future Simple Tense

The basic structure/formula of Positive Sentences in Future Simple Tense is-

  • (subject + auxiliary verb + main verb + object)
  • (subject + will/shall/may + base form of verb + object)

Rules for Positive Sentences in Future Simple Tense

The auxiliary verb ‘will’ always implies to the future and so does ‘shall’. Please note that ‘shall’ should be used with – I, we, though it is also perfectly alright to use ‘will’ with ‘I’ or ‘We’. The base form of verb is used in Future Simple Tense sentences though there are few exceptions to the rule which we will study here. Go through the following sentences-

  • He will go to the conference.
  • I shall go to the office.
  • I will go to the office.
  • They will eat the dinner.

In the above sentences the speaker is talking about the future actions which are planned to happen in the near or far future. Note that though ‘shall’ should be used with ‘I’ and ‘we’ it is perfectly alright to use ‘will’ also. ‘Shall’ on the other hand may be used to suggest something for future as given in below example sentences-

  • You shall attend the meeting.
  • She shall sing in the concert.
  • We shall take part in the annual meet.

Though the above sentences are also in Future Simple Tense; they rather happen to suggest something in future – shall attend, shall sing, shall take part etc.

  • He may come tomorrow.
  • They may leave early.
  • She may call you.
  • We may visit your house.

In the above sentences the speaker is talking about future actions/incidents which may or may not happen. ‘May’ indicates doubt or unsure of a future incident.

[NEW] Future Simple Tense – простое будущее время в английском языке ‹ engblog.ru | future simple tense – NATAVIGUIDES

Будущее действие в английском языке можно выразить множеством способов. Самый известный из них – это Future Simple (простое будущее время). Впрочем, оно не такое «простое», как кажется на первый взгляд. У этого времени много функций, и мы предлагаем вам изучить их в нашей статье.

Как образуется время Future Simple

Утверждение

Для того чтобы образовать Future Simple, нам нужен вспомогательный глагол will. На первом месте будет подлежащее, за ним следует will, на третьем месте – основной глагол без частицы to.

Возможно, вы когда-то слышали, что вспомогательные глаголы Future Simple – это shall и will. Да, так было, но давно. Сегодня will – единственный вспомогательный глагол, а shall иногда употребляется в вопросах.

I/He/She/It/We/You/They + will + глагол

I will come. – Я приду.

He will win. – Он выиграет.

She will understand. – Она поймет.

It will break. – Оно сломается.

We will find. – Мы найдем.

You will see. – Вы увидите.

They will agree. – Они согласятся.

В утвердительном предложении will объединяется с местоимением и образует сокращенную форму:

  • I’ll come.
  • She’ll understand.
  • They’ll agree.

Отрицание

В отрицательном предложении между вспомогательным глаголом и основным появляется частица not.

I/He/She/It/We/You/They + will not + глагол

I will not come. – Я не приду.

He will not win. – Он не выиграет.

She will not understand. – Она не поймет.

It will not break. – Оно не сломается.

We will not find. – Мы не найдем.

You will not see. – Вы не увидите.

They will not agree. – Они не согласятся.

В отрицательном предложении will объединяется с частицей not, образуя сокращенную форму. Но здесь есть одна особенность – изменение формы слова: will + not = won’t. Например:

  • It won’t break.
  • We won’t find.
  • You won’t see.

Вопрос

Вопрос в Future Simple начинается со вспомогательного глагола will, за которым следуют подлежащее и основной глагол.

Will + I/he/she/it/we/you/they + глагол

Will I come? – Я приду?

Will he win? – Он выиграет?

Will she understand? – Она поймет?

Will it break? – Оно сломается?

Will we find? – Мы найдем?

Will you see? – Вы увидите?

Will they agree? – Они согласятся?

Мы разделили все функции Future Simple на 3 группы, для того чтобы вам удобно было учить это время. Если вы еще не знакомы с ним, то в первую очередь следует изучить зеленую рамку. В ней собраны основные функции, необходимые для начального уровня. В желтой рамке вы найдете те функции, которые нужны на среднем уровне. А в красной представлены более редкие и сложные случаи употребления Future Simple, изучаемые на высоком уровне.

  2. Когда действие будет повторяться несколько раз в будущем.

В этом времени могут употребляться слова, указывающие на действие в будущем: tomorrow (завтра), tonight (сегодня вечером), the day after tomorrow (послезавтра), next week (на следующей неделе), next year (в следующем году), in a week / in a month (через неделю / через месяц), soon (вскоре) и т. д.

She will call me tonight. – Она позвонит мне вечером.

  3. Future Simple используется, когда мы принимаем решение мгновенно и сразу же его озвучиваем, другими словами, когда мы принимаем спонтанные решения.

I will order a steak and chips, and you? – Я закажу стейк и жареную картошку, а ты? (я пришел в ресторан, посмотрел меню и выбрал стейк спонтанно)

Hold on. I‘ll get a pen. – Подожди, я достану ручку. (появилась необходимость что-то записать, поэтому я сразу озвучил, что надо взять ручку)

People won’t go to Jupiter even in 100 years. – Люди не полетят на Юпитер даже через 100 лет.

В таких предложениях часто встречаются слова, показывающие предположение, сомнение, уверенность или неуверенность: think (думать), hope (надеяться), believe (считать, полагать), wonder (интересоваться), expect (ожидать), imagine (представлять, воображать), be sure (быть уверенным), be certain (быть уверенным), be afraid (бояться); probably (вероятно), certainly (определенно), perhaps (возможно):

I am sure you will enjoy the film. – Я уверен, что фильм тебе понравится.

The rain won’t probably stop soon. – Дождь, вероятно, закончится не скоро.

  2. Will может быть не только вспомогательным глаголом будущего времени, но и модальным глаголом. Ситуация в таких предложениях чаще всего относится к будущему, и на русский язык мы тоже будем переводить будущим временем. С помощью will мы можем передать несколько значений:
    • Обещание.

I will come and see you before leaving. – Я навещу вас перед отъездом.

    • Предложение.

Will you have a cup of tea? – Ты выпьешь чашечку чая?

    • Просьбу.

Will you help me to find an earring? I dropped it in the bathroom. – Ты поможешь мне найти сережку? Я уронила ее в ванной.

    • Предупреждение или угрозу.

Don’t drink coffee at night. You will have problems with sleep. – Не пей кофе вечером. У тебя будут проблемы со сном (предупреждение)

Listen carefully to me or I will punish you. – Слушай меня внимательно, или я тебя накажу. (угроза)

Иногда действия в подобных предложениях похожи на простые единичные действия в будущем. Если в устной речи вы хотите подчеркнуть, что ваши слова – это обещание или предупреждение, то выделите will голосом. Предложение и просьба обычно подаются в виде вопроса.

Сложные случаи употребления Future Simple

I want to ask if he will go to Japan next year. – Я хочу спросить, поедет ли он в Японию в следующем году.

I have no idea if she will like these flowers. –

If you will stand your ground, you will lose your job. – Если ты будешь и дальше стоять на своем, то потеряешь работу.

    • Когда will обозначает вежливую просьбу.

If you will pass the salt, I will be obliged. – Передайте, пожалуйста, соль, я буду вам благодарен.

  3. Одна из функций will как модального глагола – показывать нежелание говорящего что-то делать. В этом случае will обозначает ситуацию в настоящем, поэтому переводится с помощью настоящего времени. Обычно в таких предложениях нам надо выделить will голосом, так мы даем собеседнику понять, что will – это модальный глагол, а не вспомогательный глагол Future Simple.

I’ve tried to give her advice, but she won’t listen. – Я хотел дать ей совет, но она не хочет слушать. (мы хотим подчеркнуть ее нежелание слушать)

My father won’t lend me his car. – Мой отец не хочет одолжить свою машину. (он показывает нежелание одолжить машину)

  4. Иногда мы используем Future Simple, когда говорим о заранее запланированном событии в формальном стиле речи. Чаще всего в этом случае мы сообщаем не только о самом событии, но и о некоторых его подробностях.

The meeting will begin at midday. The presentation will start at 12.30. – Собрание начнется в полдень. Презентация начнется в 12:30.

Обратите внимание, мы обычно используем Present Continuous или конструкцию be going to, когда говорим о запланированном действии в будущем, а также Present Simple, если говорим о действии по расписанию.

We’re having a meeting in the café in two hours. – У нас встреча в кафе через два часа.

I’m going to have a meeting with Andy today. – Сегодня я собираюсь встретиться с Энди.

    The meeting begins at 9 a.m. – Собрание начнется в 9 утра.

У времени Future Simple обширный круг задач, и для большинства будущих ситуаций вы сможете найти подходящую функцию. Его по праву можно назвать «универсальным» будущим временем. Конечно, как и любое английское время, Future Simple можно встретить в неожиданном контексте, поэтому на всех уровнях владения языком вы узнаете о нем что-то новое.

Summary of Functions and Uses
Other Important Information: \”will\” and \”won’t\” vs. \”be going to\”
The simple future tense comes in two variations:
\”Will\” and \”won’t\”
\”be going to\”
These two variations can have different meanings and cannot always be used interchangeably. be going to is used for talking about future plans and also for making predictions. While will and won’t can also be used to make predictions, we do not use them to talk about future plans. Hence, only in the case of making predictions, may we use will and won’t and be going to interchangeably. Take for example:
Speaker A: Can you wash the car today?
Speaker B: I’ll do it tomorrow.
Speaker B did not plan on washing the car tomorrow. Rather, it was a spontaneous decision caused by speaker A’s request. Had speaker B said I’m going to do it tomorrow, it would suggest that speaker B already planned on washing the car tomorrow prior to speaker A asking.
This video only focuses on will and won’t. We will explore be going to in other videos.
