Conditional sentences type 3 sendiri digunakan untuk menyatakan sebuah situasi yang tak mungkin bisa terjadi, karena situasi tersebut berlangsung di masa lampau dan tak mungkin bisa dirubah. Kalimat conditional sentence type 3 sendiri biasanya banyak digunakan untuk menyatakan sebuah kesempatan di masa lalu yang terlewatkan. Contoh:

  • Andi would have had ten million subscribers by now if he had started his YouTube channel ten years earlier.
    Andi tentu sudah memiliki sepuluh juta subscriber sekarang jika dia memulai kanal YouTube-nya sepuluh tahun lebih awal.

Pada pernyataan di atas mengindikasikan kalau Andi menyesal kenapa ia tidak memulai kanal YouTube miliknya sepuluh tahun lebih awal dari yang ia lakukan saat ini. Karena pada kenyataannya ia belum lama memulai kanal YouTube miliknya dan ia belum memiliki sepuluh juta subscriber hingga saat ini (subscribernya masih sedikit). Jadi pernyataan di atas hanya bisa terjadi dalam pengandaian saja dan tidak mungkin bisa terjadi di dunia nayata karena Andi tidak mungkin bisa mengubah kapan ia pertama kali memulai kanal YouTube-nya dulu.

Rumus Conditional Sentences Type 3

Sebenarnya semua jenis conditional sentences, termasuk conditional sentence type 3, dibentuk oleh dua bagian yakni if clause dan main clause. Jadi kita bisa membentuk kalimat conditional sentence type 3 menggunakan pola berikut:

S + would + have + past participle (V3) + If + S + had + past participle.

Kalau kita menaruh if clause di depan kalimat, maka kita menggunakan tanda koma sebagai pemisah if clause dan main clause.

If + S + had + past participle (V3), S + would + have + past participle.

Jadi secara garis besar kita menggunakan past perfect tense pada if clause dan past future perfect tense pada main clause.

    Aku tentu sudah bekerja untuk perusahaan bergengsi jika aku memiliki pengalaman yang cukup.

  8. If he hadn’t lied to me before, I would have believed him.

    Jika dia tidak berbohong kepadaku sebelumnya, aku tentu sudah mempercayainya.
    Fact: He lied to me before so I didn’t believe him anymore.
  9. If you hadn’t been late for work, your boss wouldn’t have gotten furious.

    Jika kau tidak terlambat untuk bekerja, bosmu tentu tidak akan marah.
    Fact: You were late for work so your boss got furious.
  10. I would have finished my group project earlier if my group members had been easy to work with.

    Aku tentu sudah menyelesaikan proyek grupku lebih awal jika anggota grupku mudah diajak bekerja sama.

    Aku tentu sudah membeli rumah tersebut jika memiliki halaman belakang yang besar.

    Jika aku tidak melewatkan pesan darimu, aku tentu sudah datang ke lokakarya kewirausahaan.

There are 5 basic types of conditional sentences: type 1 conditional sentences, type 2 conditional sentences and type 3 conditional sentences, but in this lesson, we will learn some more types of conditional sentences. and will start with a conditional of type 0.

The Zero Conditional

The zero conditional is used for when the time being referred to is now or always and the situation is real and possible and also used to refer to general truths. In zero conditional sentences, the word ” if ” can usually be replaced by the word ” when ” without changing the meaning.

The structure of Type Zero conditional sentences:

Form :

If clauseMain clauseIf + Simple presentSimple present

Example:

  • If you heat ice, it melts.
  • If it rains, the grass gets wet.

The Zero Conditional (Present Real Conditional)

The First Conditional Sentences

The type 1 conditional is used to refer to the present or future where the situation is real. The type 1 conditional refers to a possible condition and its probable result.

The structure of Type 1 conditional sentences:

– Future plans and invitations: If the weather’s good tomorrow, we’ll go to the park.
– Offers and promises: If I finish my work, I’ll watch Pokemon with you.
– Negotiations: If you help me make dinner, I’ll help you with your homework.
– Threats and warnings: If you keep acting like this, you’ll be grounded for a week!
– Polite requests: If you’ll give me a moment, I’ll be right there sweetie!
1st Conditional Forms:
Statements:
– If clause, + result clause
– Also known as, condition clause + consequence clause, or subordinate clause + main clause / other clause.
– If + any present tense, + any future tense.
– Most common form: If + present simple, + future simple (with “will”)
– Example: If + I miss the bus, + I’ll catch a taxi.
Using “Unless”:
– We can also replace “if” with “unless” in the if clause.
– Example: Unless I miss the bus, I won’t catch a taxi.
Switching the Positions of the Clauses:
– Result clause + if clause
– I’ll catch a taxi if I miss the bus.
– No comma when the result clause comes first.
Yes/No Questions:
