แปลตรงๆ จะแปลว่า มีเวลาซักนาทีมั้ย แต่จริงๆ ก็หมายถึงพอมีเวลาสั้นๆ มั้ยนั่นเอง ใช้เวลาเราอยากกวนเวลาใครสั้นๆ นอกจากประโยคนี้แล้ว จะใช้ประโยคด้านล่างแทนก็ได้ค่ะ แปลโดยรวมเหมือนกันเลยค่ะ

• Are you free to talk?
• Can I have a word with you?
• Can I talk to you for a minute/a second?

ถ้าเราว่าง คุยได้ ก็ตอบไปว่า Yes./Sure./Of course.  และถามกลับไปได้ว่า What is it?/What’s the matter? (คุยเรื่องอะไรล่ะ, มีเรื่องอะไรรึเปล่า)

คำแปล: รังเกียจมั้ยถ้าจะช่วยฉันเกี่ยวกับ…

  รังเกียจมั้ยถ้าจะช่วยฉันเกี่ยวกับเอกสารนี้

  รังเกียจมั้ยถ้าจะช่วยฉันเกี่ยวกับโปรเจคนี้

  รังเกียจมั้ยถ้าจะช่วยฉันเกี่ยวกับสัญญาฉบับนี้

คำแปล: รังเกียจมั้ยที่จะทำ…

• Would you mind sending the presentation to me?
  รังเกียจมั้ยที่จะส่งสื่อนำเสนองานให้ฉันหน่อย

  รังเกียจมั้ยที่จะถ่ายเอกสารบิลนี้ให้ฉันหน่อย

ประโยคนี้เอาไปใช้เวลาอยากให้คนอื่นช่วยเรา “ทำอะไร” คือระบุเลยว่าคุณช่วยทำนั่นนี่ให้ฉันหน่อยได้มั้ย ซึ่งโครงสร้างจะต้องตามด้วย V.ing (หรือที่รู้จักกันอีกชื่อคือ Gerund) ค่ะ มีหลักง่ายๆ ว่า อยากให้ช่วยทำอะไร เอา V. ตัวนั้นไปเติม -ing แล้วต่อท้ายประโยคได้เลย เช่น

  จะเป็นอะไรมั้ยถ้าฉันจะขอเลื่อนกำหนดส่งงาน

นอกจากแปลว่า รังเกียจมั้ย” แล้ว Would you mind ยังสามารถหมายถึง “จะเป็นอะไรมั้ย” ได้ด้วย คือใช้โยนหินถามทางก่อนได้ว่า ถ้าเราจะทำแบบเนี้ย จะเป็นไรป่าว เช่นอยากอยากโดดประชุม ก็ไปถามนายก่อนว่า Would you mind if I skip the meeting? (แต่อย่าลืมเตรียมเหตุผลที่ฟังขึ้นไปบอกนายด้วยนะ)

คำตอบพวกนี้เราสามารถเอาไปใช้ได้เหมือนกันนะคะ ถ้าหากเราเปนคนรับโทรศัพท์เอง ใครเป็นเลขาฯ หรือต้องติดต่อลูกค้า เพื่อนร่วมงานทางโทรศัพท์บ่อยๆ ได้ใช้แน่นอนค่ะ

9. When (What time) can I call you back?

คำแปล: ฉันโทรกลับหาคุณได้เมื่อไร

ประโยคนี้ใช้เวลาเราโทรหาใคร แต่เขายังไม่ว่างคุย ณ ตอนนั้น เราก็ถามกลับไปได้ว่างั้นสะดวกให้เราโทรกลับไปอีกครั้งเมือไรดี คำตอบส่วนมากเขาก็จะบอกช่วงเวลา หรือระยะเวลากลับมาเช่น

• Can you call me again at 2 p.m.?
  โทรหาฉันอีกทีตอนบ่ายสองได้มั้ย
   
• Can you call me in 15 minutes?
  อีก 15 นาทีค่อยโทรหาฉันได้มั้ย

หรือถ้าเขาจะเป็นคนโทรกลับมาหาเราเองเมื่อสะดวก ก็จะบอกได้ว่า

• I’ll call you back when I’m free.
  ฉันจะโทรกลับหาคุณเองเมื่อฉันว่าง
   
• I’ll call you back in 30 minutes.
  อีก 30 นาทีฉันจะโทรกลับหาคุณนะ

10. Can I take + วัน/อาทิตย์นี้/เดือนหน้า off?

คำแปล: ฉันขอลาในวัน…ได้มั้ย

• Can I take Monday off?
  ฉันขอลาวันจันทร์ได้มั้ย
   
• Can I take this Friday off?
  ฉันขอลาวันศุกร์นี้ได้มั้ย

หรือถ้าอยากถามก่อนว่าขอลาซักวันนึงได้มั้ย (ยังไม่รู้ว่าวันไหน) ก็ใช้ประโยคว่า

• Can I take a day off?
  ฉันขอลาซักวันได้มั้ย
