forget

forget + gerund = ทำแล้วไม่ลืม

ใช้ getในความหมายว่า ชักชวนให้ใคร ทำอะไร ต้องใช้กริยาช่อง 1 ที่มี to นำหน้า
ดูการใช้คำว่า have และ make เพิ่มเติม เพราะใช้ทำนองเดียวกัน

hate + gerund = โดยปกติ ไม่ชอบ…

I hate to tell you, but Uncle Jim is coming this weekend.
ฉันไม่อยากจะบอกคุณเลย แต่ลุงฉันจะมาหาวันเสาร์-อาทิตย์นี้

ได้ยิน
I heard him sing.
ฉันได้ยินเขาร้องเพลง
hear + object + infinitive without to = ได้ยินตั้งแต่ต้นจนจบ

I heard him singing when I passed his room.
ฉันได้ยินเขากำลังร้องเพลง เมื่อตอนผ่านห้องของเขา
hear + object + gerund = รับรู้บางส่วนขณะที่ทำกิจกรรมนั้น ๆ

hear เป็นคำกริยาที่เกี่ยวกับสัมผัสความรู้สึก (verb of perception)
ตามด้วย infinitive without to เป็นการรับรู้ตั้งแต่ต้นจนจบ
ตามด้วย gerund เป็นการรับรู้เพียงบางช่วง ขณะที่ทำกริยานั้น ๆ เน้นที่กริยาที่ทำ

ถ้ามีคำว่า can หรือ could ใช้ร่วมกับคำประเภทนี้ จะตามด้วย gerund

I can hear people talking. They must be in the next room.
ฉันสามารถได้ยินคนคุยกัน เขาน่าจะต้องอยู่ถัดจากห้องนี้

ใช้ได้ทั้งสองอย่าง คือ ตามด้วย gerund หรือ infinitive ก็ได้ ความหมายเหมือนกัน
บางตำราบอกว่า
like + gerund = เป็นความชอบ ทำแล้วสนุก เน้นที่ตัวกิจกรรมที่ทำแล้วสนุกและชอบ
I like swimming.
เน้นที่การว่ายน้ำ ว่ายน้ำแล้วสนุก

like + infinitive = ใช้กับสิ่งที่ชอบทำเป็นนิสัย ชอบเพราะเป็นเรื่องสำคัญหรือถูกต้อง เช่น
I like to be punctual.
ฉันชอบตรงเวลา
I like to swim when I go to the beach.
ถ้าไปทะเล ฉันชอบว่ายน้ำ

look forward to
รอคอยด้วยความสนใจI’m looking forward to seeing you again.

make
บังคับให้ทำJoe’s mother made him visit his relatives.

mean
แปลว่า, ตั้งใจYou have forgotten your homework again. That means phoning your mother.
คุณลืมการบ้านอีกแล้ว. นั่นแปลว่า(ต้อง)โทรศัพท์หาแม่ของคุณ (เพื่อให้เอาการบ้านมาให้ หรือ ฟ้อง หรืออะไรก็แล้วแต่…)
mean+ing = แปลว่า, หมายถึง

I meant to phone your mother, but my mobile didn’t work.
ฉันตั้งใจจะโทรศัพท์ไปหาแม่ของคุณ, แต่มือถือของฉันมันใช้งานไม่ได้ (เสีย)

prevent
ป้องกัน You can’t prevent my leaving.
คุณป้องกันการจากไปของผม ไม่ได้หรอก

We are working to prevent forest fires.

prevent ตามด้วย possessive adjective + gerund (เช่น my leaving)

  2. wish ในความหมายว่า ปรารถนา ตามด้วย that clause จะใช้รูปแบบเหมือนกับ if clause

    wish + past tense

The infinitive is usually used with the marker to. However, after certain verbs, it is used without to. Fill in the blanks with an appropriate infinitive form.
