Sat = Existence (also translated as Truth, or Being)
Chit = Consciousness
Ananda = Bliss
Satchitananda is a Sanskrit word that refers to the experience of our true nature, the ultimate reality of the universe. The sages say that our true nature is existence, pure being, and this existence is nothing other than Consciousness, the awareness that lies at the core of every being in the Universe. When one realizes their true being as Consciousness, the awareness that is one with all that is, the experience is pure bliss, as they are freed from the sense of limitation, and realize all that they need is within themselves. Thus they become content to be themselves, the true Self, or Consciousness, of the Universe.
The Self experienced as an individual is known as Atman. The cosmic Self is called Brahman, the ultimate reality. The famous Advaiata Vedanta axiom \”Atman is Brahman\” explains that the ultimate reality of Universal Consciousness manifests itself as many individual Consciousness’s, yet ever remains one with its original substance; just as gold is made into many forms, yet always remains the substance of gold. Your true Self, the Awareness that is your inner most being, is Atman, and Atman is Brahman. You are the one eternal reality experiencing itself as an individual expression. Realize this and be free!
