Türkçeye “Devam Eden Mişli Geçmiş Zaman” olarak çevirebileceğimiz Past perfect continuous tense ile gelmekteydim/gitmekteydim, geliyordum/gidiyordum şeklinde cümleler kuruyoruz. Bu zamanda kurulan cümleleri başka şekillerde de Türkçeye çevirebiliyoruz ancak en yaygın kullanım alanlarımız bunlar.
Yine öncelikle bu zamanın yapısını inceleyelim, ardından da bu tür detayları ve kullanım yerlerini öğrenelim. Past perfect continuous tense ile Present perfect continuous tense birbirine çok ama çok benziyor ancak bazı farklar tabi. Bu zamanda yardımcı fiil olarak have ve has sözcüklerinin yerine had kelimesini kullanıyoruz.
53. dersten hatırlarsanız, Present perfect continuous’u geliyorum, gidiyorum, gelmekteyim, gitmekteyim şeklinde cümleler kurarken kullanıyorduk. Past perfect continuous’u, Present perfect continuous’un geçmişteki hali olarak düşünebiliriz. Dolayısıyla cümlelerimiz Türkçeye gelmekteydim/gitmekteydim, geliyordum/gidiyordum şeklinde çevriliyor.
Past perfect continuous tense’in yapısı bu şekilde. Biraz da bu zamanı hangi durumlarda kullandığımıza ve diğer zamanlarla arasındaki farklara bakalım. Devam Eden Mişli Geçmiş Zaman ile geçmişte başlayıp, bir süre devam eden ve yine geçmişte bir noktada son bulan olayları anlatıyoruz.
Bu zamanı Present perfect continuous tense’in geçmişteki hali olarak düşünebiliriz demiştik. O zaman örnekler üzerinden karşılaştırmalı olarak gidelim:
They have been waiting in the line for an hour. Bir saattir sırada bekliyorlar.
They had been waiting in the line for an hour. Bir saattir sırada bekliyorlardı.
İngilizcede yapıyordu/ediyordu anlamlarını veren bir zaman daha öğrenmiştik; Past Continuous Tense. Past Continuous Tense aslında pek çok durumda bu zamanın yerini tutabiliyor. Hatta Past perfect continuous’a göre daha kısa olduğu için daha çok tercih ediliyor. Ancak tabi yine birkaç şartımız var. Birincisi, cümlede since veya for geçmeyecek. Ancak Past Continuous Tense, Past perfect continuous gibi devam edip tamamlanan bir süreci değil de, yarıda kesilen eylemleri anlattığı için her bir cümlede Past perfect continuous yerine Past Continuous kullanmak doğru olmayacaktır. Past perfect continuous past continuous farkı bu şekilde.
