5. การเขียนย่อหน้าประเภทต่าง ๆ

             ในการเขียนบทความทางวิชาการ ควรเขียนย่อหน้าประเภทต่าง ๆให้เหมาะสมตามบริบทของการเขียนบทความทางวิชาการดังต่อไปนี้
             5.1 เขียนตามเนื้อหาในหัวข้อเรื่อง (explaining the contents by topic)
             เป็นการเขียนตามเนื้อหาที่กำหนดไว้ใน topic sentence  ตามตัวอย่างต่อไปนี้  topic sentence  แบ่งเนื้อหา Metacognitive belief  ออกเป็น  3 ประเภท คือ person knowledge, task knowledge, and strategy knowledge แล้วเขียนบรรยายไปทีละประเภท

Metacognitive belief can be put into three categories: person knowledge, task knowledge, and strategy knowledgeWenden 1991). Person knowledge refers to general knowledge about how human beings learn and process information, and individual knowledge of one’s own leaning processes. Learners need to understand their own cognitive capabilities, and to know in which particular areas they are generally competent and skilful.  They need to know how to compensate for deficiencies. Task knowledge includes knowledge about the nature of the task and the type of processing demands.  Learners need to know the purpose and the nature of the tasks.  Strategy knowledge includes knowledge about both cognitive and metacognitive strategies and conditional knowledge about when and where it is appropriate to use strategies.   It can lead learners to select, evaluate and revise cognitive tasks, goals, and strategies in the light of their relationship with one another and with their abilities and interests (Flavell, 1979).  Learner may deliberately call upon their metacognitive knowledge when the learning task is new and incomplete (Wenden, 1999).

             5.2 ยกตัวอย่าง (giving examples)

ตัวอย่าง Metacognitive beliefs may be viewed as rationalizations or coping responses.  For example, learners can select challenging tasks and persevere with them, when they believe that they can accomplish the tasks with reasonable effort (Bandura, 1982; Schunk, 1984).  Metacognitive beliefs also include learners’ perception of self-efficacy and self-control.

Rice is a staple food that forms an important part of the diet for a large part of the world’s human population.  It is the second-most consumed cereal grain in topical Latin America and East, South and Southeast Asia (FAO 2006).  Rice constitutes the major economic activity and a key source of employment and income for the rural population in these regions.  In 2006, over 154 million ha of land globally was cultivated with rice, 0-98 in developing countries and only 0-02 in developed countries (FAO 2006).  Rice production, especially from developing countries, accounted for 0-11 of all agricultural anthropogenic GHG emission (Smith et al, 2007).

Respondents (N=111) were African American female undergraduates at a large university in the Midwestern United States.  They participated in the study either for monetary compensation or in exchange for extra credit toward their course guide.  Participants ranged from 18- to 34-year-old women (M=20.51, SD = 2.34).

Data collection
The present study utilized a dataset, collected between 2001 and 2005 from the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), in the Philippines, whereas the USA data were obtained from Arkansas University 2006/2007 (University of Arkansas 2006).  All data used contained plot-level rice production information, such as machine, fuel, agrochemicals, farm yard manure, and human and animal labour use.  For all major inputs into rice production, GHG emissions associated with these activities were calculated.

Among the eight countries used in the present study, China in 1990 has the highest rice production area, followed by Indonesia and Myanmar, where as the developed countries, USA and Australia, have relatively small areas devoted to rice production (Table 2).  In 1990, about 147 million ha was planted with rice, with the majority occurring in developing countries (0-97).  Between 1990 and 2006, global rice production area increased by 0-05 (decreasing by 0-088 in developed countries and increasing by0-054 in developing countries).  Surprisingly, during this period, the rice production area in Australia decreased by 0-8—20000ha. This was largely due to prolonged drought that resulted in lower rice production and thus lower profits.

Procedure
The survey was computer aided.  Researchers e-mailed all potential participants the survey link so they could take the survey at the time of their convenience by using any computer with Internet access. On the survey homepage, participants were first informed that the study was designed to investigate young people’s perceptions of various social issues.  They were also told that that questionnaire was anonymous and the participation was completely voluntary.  All students indicated their consent before they proceeded to do the survey.  They were debriefed following completion of the online questionnaire.

        การเขียนคำนิยามในบทความทางวิชาการมีความสำคัญมาก นอกจากจะสรุปความคิด ทฤษฎีของนักวิชาการอื่นให้นิยามเรื่องต่าง ๆ ไว้แล้ว  ในงานวิจัยผู้วิจัยจะต้องกำหนดคำนิยามเชิงปฏิบัติการ (operational definition) ว่าในการศึกษาเรื่องนี้ คำหรือ กรอบแนวคิด (concept) ที่ใช้มีความหมาย ในบริบท ขอบข่ายใด

The participants were classified into low and high prior knowledge groups based on their scores on the prior knowledge test.  A comparison of frequencies of strategies for readers with high and low prior knowledge (see Table 2) indicated that readers with high prior knowledge used notably more cognitive and metacognitive strategies (259,206 respectively).  The gap between the two groups was larger in the use of metacognitive strategies, suggesting more conscious effort on the part of the high knowledge group in monitoring their strategies.

A range of studies have investigated whether certain types of written corrective feedback or combinations of different types are more effective than others.  These studies have most often categorized feedback as either direct (explicit) or indirect (implicit).  Direct corrective feedback may be defined as the provision of the correct linguistic form or structure by the teacher to the student above the linguistic error (Ferris, 2003).  It may include the crossing out of an unnecessary word/phrase/morpheme, the insertion of a missing word/phrase/morpheme, or the provision of the correct form of structure.  Additional forms of direct feedback may include written meta-linguistic explanation (the provision of grammar rules and examples at the end of a student’s script with a reference back to places in the test where the error has occurred) and spoken meta-linguistic explanation (e.g. a mini-lesson where rules and examples are presented, practiced and discussed; one-on-one individual conferences between teacher and student or conferences between teacher and small groups of students).  On the other hand, indirect corrective feedback is that which indicates that in someway an error has been made without explicit attention drawn (Ferris, 2003).  This may be provided in one of the four ways: underlining or circling the error; recording in the margin the number of errors in a given line; or using a code to show where the error has occurred and what type of error it is (Ferris and Roberts, 2001); Robb et al., 1986). Rather than the teacher providing an explicit correction, students are left to resolve and correct the problem that has been drawn to their attention.

In Western Europe, weed management on conventional farms is primarily accomplished through the use of herbicides.  This has been very effective for weed control in major crops, greatly reducing yield losses and stabilizing potential weed infestations at low and constant levels.  Herbicides have therefore facilitated the simplification of cropping systems, the expansion of monocultures and the adoption of reduced tillage systems (Buhler et al., 2000).  However, the use of herbicides as the sole weed management tool is seriously being questioned by farmers because of herbicide costs and technical problems related to resistance of weed populations to one or several herbicides (Richeter et al., 2002; Mace et al., 2007).  In addition, there is an increasing concern about the environmental impacts of herbicide residues into surface- and ground-water.  Therefore, one of the main challenges is to develop Integrated Weed Management (IWM) systems that limit weed infestations with a low reliance on herbicides, preferably without side effects on the productivity and the overall system economic performance.  The main guidelines form IWM result from  the current knowledge on the influence of cropping systems on weed demography.  In addition to crop rotation, IWM recommends adapted soil tillage to manage the depth of the seed bank (Munier-Jolain et al., 2004), stale seedbed and adapted sowing date (Ramussen, 2004), adapted sowing densities and row widths (Olsen et al., 2005), competitive cultivars (Lemerle et al., 2001), and mechanical weeding.
