  สวัสดีครับ ครูเจมส์สำหรับอิงวิดครับ คุณครูกำลังจะ take a break จากสิ่งนี้(การอ่าน)เดี๋ยวนี้เลย คุณครูอยากจะสอนคุณบางอย่างครับ มี Slang ภาษาปากครับ  เราจะคุยกันถึงแสลง ปกติแล้วแสลงคือภาษาพูดแบบย่อให้สั้นลง และนี่คือบทเรียนที่ดีเพราะ(เรา)จะทำให้คำมันสั้นลง สิ่งที่คุณต้องทำคือ break words แยกคำมันออกแล้วเอามาจัดเรียงใหม่  ทำให้แสลงมันสั้นเข้าและ we’re going to break เรากำลังจะมาดูรายละเอียดของคำกัน

มาดูความหมายพื้นฐานของคำว่า BREAK กันนะครับ

ถ้าคุณดูที่รูปจะเห็นว่าคำว่า BRE/AK  นี้ถูกแยกเป็นสองส่วน นี้หมายถึงเพื่อ to cause to separate into pieces (suddenly or violently) นั่นหมายถึงเมื่อคุณทำลายข้าวของบางอย่าง คุณทำให้มัน(แหลก,ละเอียด)เป็นชิ้นย่อยๆ ตอนนี้ปกติเราจะคิดถึง breaking glasses, or breaking something ทำลายแก้ว, หรือทำลายของอย่างอื่น โดยวิธีการ smash เขวี้ยง,กระแทกแรงๆให้มันแตก, explode ทำให้มันระเบิดออก, broke my thing ทำลายข้างของต่างๆของผมนะ suddenly or violently มันเกิดขึ้นทันทีทันใดหรือแบบรุนแรงอะ แต่ความหมายพื้นฐานของ to separate into pieces คือ what we will work with today สิ่งที่เราต้องการจะมาเรียนรู้กันในวันนี้ เพราะเราใช้ในแสลงกันเยอะครับ โอเค

  on a “Break”

ดังนั้นมาดูคำแรกกันครับ นิยมกันมากๆ ถ้าคุณชมซีรีส์ FRIENDS นะครับ ในซีรีส์ FRIENDS จะมีคู่รักกัน คือ รอสกับราเชล เค้ารักกันอยู่ แต่ความสัมพันธ์เค้าคือเค้าแยกกัน มันไม่เชิงแยกกันแต่เป็น BREAK they take sometime apart มีบางช่วงที่เค้าแยกกัน และเค้าบอกว่า โอเค ตั้งแต่นี้เราจะไม่ไปด้วยกันนะ  we’re not gonna be together for now, we’re gonna “separate into pieces”

ดังนั้นบางครั้ง We were on a “Break” บางครั้งเป็นแสลง หมายความว่า ตอนนี้เราเลิกกัน แต่เราก็ตั้งใจจะกลับมาคบกันอีก ดังนั้น รอสกับราเชล ราเชลพูดว่า We were on a “Break” นั่นหมายถึง ตอนนี้เราไม่ได้คบกันอย่างเป็นทางการ เราไม่ได้พูดคุยกัน ไม่ได้ติดต่อกันแต่เราจะกลับมาคบกัน นั่นคือแสลงตรงนี้ ในความหมายของ  on a “Break”

มาดูคำต่อไปกัน can you break a 10$ สมมุติว่า ผมไม่มีเงินอยู่เลย ขอเวลาแป๊บนึงนะครับ บางทีผมมี โอ้ ผมมีเงินแล้วครับ เห็นนี่มั๊ยครับ เงินไง ตอนนี้ เรื่องตลกเกี่ยวกับนี้คือนี่คือแบงค์ร้อยแบบใหม่ของคานาดา อย่าไปทำปลอมกันนะครับ  ยังไงก็ตามถ้าคุณไปที่ร้านค้า แล้วบอก “ขอแตกแบงค์หน่อย” ก็คงยาก แต่คุณต้องการแตกแบงค์จริงๆเพราะไม่มีใครในคานาดายอมให้คุณใช้(แบงค์ร้อย เพราะมันทอนยาก) แต่โชคร้าย คุณไม่สามาถฉีกมันด้วย เอาหละครับ ดังนั้น “Break” คุณพูดว่า Can you break? ถ้าคุณพูดเช่นนั้นในคานาดา นั่นหมายความว่า
= Can you give me change? ขอแลกสตางค์หน่อยครับ coin or smaller bill เป็นเหรียญหรือแบงค์ย่อยเพราะเงินมันเยอะไปที่จะใช้ตามปกติ โอเคนะครับ Can you break a 10$

  Give me a break

แล้วคำต่อมาล่ะ คำต่อมา อยู่ไหนครับ ออ นี่ Give me a break. Can you give me a break, please…

Give me a break  มี 2 ความหมาย อันที่ผ่านๆมา มีความหมายเดียว แต่ถ้าคุณฟังท่าทางที่เค้าพูด
– rest
– opportunity

– Can you give me a break, please… = Please give me an opportunity, or a chance to do something.
Now,แต่ถ้าเค้าบอกว่า
– Just give me a break for 5 second. = ปกติแล้ว นั้นหมายถึง Give me a rest.

ดังนั้นตรงนี้
Ah, gimme a “Break” will ya? (Ah, give me a break, will/would you?)
= Total slang เป็นแสลงจริงๆ
= หมายความว่า I’m tired.   Let me rest, C’mon will ya, please?
= ขอพักหน่อยก็จะดีนะ
โอเคนะครับ

  Break Out

คำต่อมา I had acne “Break Out” after I ate pizza.
– acne
– get out

1.  acne
จำได้มั๊ยครับที่เราบอกว่า “Break” คือ  cause to separate into pieces คือทำให้มัน(แหลก,ละเอียด)เป็นชิ้นย่อยๆ
– acne หรือ Pimples หรือ Zits
= สิว
= สิ่งที่นูนบวมขึ้นมาบนหน้าคุณ ตอนที่คุณได้รับน้ำมันจากอาหารเข้าไป(ในร่างกาย)มากๆ จะเกิดขึ้นในช่วงวัยรุ่น โอเค อันนี้มันเกิดขึ้น
 
“Break Out” = บีบสิว

2. get out
ไม่ กี่ปีที่ผ่านมามีซีรีส์ทางโทรทัศน์ ชื่อว่า “Prison Break” เกี่ยวกับ criminal เกี่ยวกับนักโทษที่ทำผิดกฏหมายน่ะครับ เค้าต้องอยู่ในคุกแต่เค้า
“Break Out”
= escape
= bring out
= get out

ดังนั้นถ้าคุณบอกว่า
You will  break out the China for my friend
= bring out
= get out the good stuff.
= แบ่งบางเครื่องครัว (ถ้วยชามจานช้อน) มาให้เพื่อน  OK นะครับ

หรืออีกความหมายหนึ่ง
“Break Out”
= leave ( แบบใน”Prison Break” ที่ leave ออกมาจากคุก)

Break Up

และ ท้ายสุดเรามี “Break Up” จำได้มั๊ยครับเราพูดถึง Break Up ตรงนี้(ในตอนแรก เรื่องของรอสกับราเชลจากซีรีส์เฟรนด์) นักเรียนชายหญิงครับ ตั้งใจฟังนะครับ ถ้าพาร์ทเนอร์ของคุณกล่าวกับคุณว่า to break คุณแทบจะการันตีได้เลยว่า You will break up.

“Break Up”  หมายถึง
= to end the relationship
= break into pieces, violently and suddenly and completely into pieces แต่เราก็ยังใช้ “Break Up”
= กับ groups การแบ่งกลุ่ม ด้วย เช่น We need to break up into 3. คือ เราต้องการแบ่งออกเป็นสามกลุ่ม โอเคครับ

ดังนั้นเราเรียนแสลงเกี่ยวกับ “BREAK” คุณครูอยากเมคชัวร์ว่านักเรียนจำคำเหล่านี้ได้ ดังนั้นเรามาทวนกันอย่างรวดเร็วครับ

1. On a Break
 ถ้าเราใช้ Break เป็นคำนาม a Break ปกติในความสัมพันธ์ มันหมายถึง = pause, rest of period  พักก่อน ก่อนจะ getting back กลับมาคบกันต่อ

2. Can you break a 10$
หรือเราใช้ Break เป็นคำกริยา
= to change money, make smaller bill, smaller denomination

denomination
= หมายถึง smaller piece of something
= แตกเงินให้ย่อยลงเป็นเหรียญหรือเป็นแบงค์

ในกรณีของเงิน
larger denomination = บิลที่ใหญ่ขึ้น สิบ, ยี่สิบ, ห้าสิบ
smaller denomination  = หนึ่งดอลล่าร์, สองดอลล่าร์ และเหรียญ coins,  

ตอนนี้ เรามีสำนวน นี้คือสำนวน
– Give me a break
– Break Out
– Break Up

Give me a break
– rest
– opportunity
สังเกต tone and context โทนและปริบทก็จะช่วยคุณได้

Break Out
เป็นคำกริยาวลี
– acne
– get out

Break Up
และคำกริยาวลีคำสุดท้ายคือ  Break Up นั่นสามารถแปลว่า
– groups แบ่งออกเป็นกลุ่มย่อย หรือ
– relationships
