Really useful.I did not know what a semi-colon was before the lesson
Here's an exact portion of the book: "The Blue Book of Grammar and Punctuation", by Jane Straus, Lester Kaufman, Tom Stern Rule 6. Use a colon rather than a comma to follow the salutation in a
business letter, even when addressing someone by his or her first name.
A comma is used after the
salutation in more informal correspondence.
Formal: Dear Ms. Rodri:
Informal: Dear Dave, Is the book's idea incorrect?

So the semi colon is more of clarifying what the problem is whilst the colon is presenting what is the problem,right?

It is said that colons should come after a complete sentance. (Colon?) Much like a full stop.
However…
See this is how I would've thought you use a colon:
Here are some reasons why nobody likes me: I don't know how to use colons properly.
But it seems it is only correct if I say something more like:
There are some reasons nobody likes me: I don't know how to use colons properly.
It seems weird though not to use a "such" as or such before a list.
Can I use dashes instead of semicolons?

Unsure as to whether you need to use a full-stop, or to use a comma? The solution is simple; use a semi-colon instead.
