I thought I was understanding gerunds and participles but 3:57 makes no sense at all.
I am sorry but I noticed that there's a mistake in 01:05, where you said gerunds are the subjects of prepositions – they should serve as the OBJECTS of prepositions, such as "I am fond OF (prep) swimming (gerund)".
Crying, Martha reached for a tissue. Crying is NOT the verb. Crying is acting as an adjective modifying Martha: thus crying is a participle. Please let me know if that was correct.
